Gnarly beasts tackle TTC tonight!

Monsters of mysterious origin do their best to thwart humanity this Friday, September 28, 10 p.m., when the Time Traveling Cinema returns to SoDo Theatre, 114 S. Neil St., Champaign, IL, with a twofer recalling the earliest days of the American drive-in! Join us for a vintage twin bill that played together in the late Fifties on outdoor screens across the land, the Texas-made independent programmers THE GIANT GILA MONSTER (1959) and THE KILLER SHREWS (1959), preceded by the final three episodes from Season 1 of the locally made Web series NINJA THE MISSION FORCE by Dark Maze Studios – featuring Charles Bronson, George A. Romero zombies, and stop-motion space dinosaurs, respectively – and local filmmaker Andrew Nygard’s new short, a dry witted sci-fi comedy called THE GIANT COMMUNIST. We may even throw in classic B-movie trailers from the atomic era, too!

Come on downtown in the next hour or so as The Psychic Joker and C-U Confidential present the Time Traveling Cinema, a community micro-cinema concept set in a clean and safe environment, newly remodeled and sporting upgraded equipment for an enhanced movie experience!

~ Jason Pankoke

p.s. Believe it or not, follow-ups to both GILA and SHREWS are lurking in the wings! Last fall, low-budget schlock veteran Jim Wynorski filmed the remake GILA! in small town Indiana locations, while fellow B-stalwart and Decatur native Steve Latshaw teamed up with former DUKES OF HAZZARD co-stars John Schneider and James Best (who starred in the original SHREWS) to produce a 50-years-later (!) sequel, THE RETURN OF THE KILLER SHREWS! Stranger things have happened, we guess.
