NAFF unleashes 2013 film lineup

LOCALLY-MADE CINEMA ADDS TO BONEYARD FLAVOR AT FOURTH ANNUAL NEW ART FILM FESTIVAL!

(Champaign, Illinois) March 31, 2013: The New Art Film Festival (NAFF) will proudly present its fourth annual showcase of locally and regionally-made independent films at the Art Theater Co-op, 126 W. Church St., downtown Champaign, Illinois. It will begin with introductions at 4 p.m. and conclude its final block of films at 11:30 p.m. The NAFF is presented by C-U Confidential and sponsored by ThirdSide and the Champaign-Urbana Film Society, and is also a part of the Boneyard Arts Festival organized by the 40 North 88 West arts council.


Highlights of the 2013 NAFF schedule include:

Art Theater 100th anniversary – Local theater historian Perry C. Morris will talk about the history and longevity of the Art, which will reach its 100th birthday in November, as well as upcoming special projects designed to mark the milestone.

THE ACTUAL, AUTHENTIC VERSION OF WHO YOU SAY I AMUniversity of Illinois theater instructor Robert Anderson and Brooklyn filmmaker Mark P. Ring team up to tell the story of actress Karen Vaccaro’s one-woman show, And I Remember, and the three ladies with downstate Illinois ties who inspired it.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN 1977 – The scientists in loud outfits battle the robots in even louder outfits one final time in the third “retro Seventies transistorpunk” comedic opus from Chris and Anne Lukeman of Champaign’s Kill Vampire Lincoln Productions. Featuring a cameo by Champaign mayor Don Gerard!

UP THE CREEK: “SHOTGUN WEDDING” – This popular Web series, about a winery staff and its hilarious misadventures, is produced by Sleepy Creek Films of Fairmount. In Episode 6, vintner Antonio matches wits against a beer-worshiping hillbilly for the hand of his daughter in marriage.

BEYOND THE BASEMENT DOORBloomington-Normal native Jason Huls returned downstate from Chicagoland to shoot this science-fiction drama starring Steve Christopher as a researcher miraculously cured of cancer due to forbidden knowledge that is barricaded downstairs.
