FLICKER OF THE WEEK
Crack open the windows, soak in the non-seasonal temperatures, make some dinner, kick up the feet, and watch one of several award-winning films brand new to home video and VOD including THE BIG SHORT (Regency/Paramount Home Entertainment), CAROL (The Weinstein Company/Anchor Bay Entertainment), and BROOKLYN (Fox Searchlight Pictures/20th Century Fox Home Entertainment). The locally lensed agri-thriller CONSUMED (Mister Lister Films/MarVista Entertainment) also premieres via streaming next Tues., 3/22. If you must leave the house for your “FOW,” great recommendations have trickled down the grapevine for the Academy Award-nominated EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT (Oscilloscope Laboratories) directed by Ciro Guerra, now entering its second week of play dates at the Art Theater Co-op. This striking black-and-white cautionary tale from Colombia depicts encounters over many years between explorers (Jan Bijvoet, Brionne Davis) and an indigenous shaman (Antonio Bolívar Salvador, Nilbio Torres) defying colonialism to keep his bloodline alive deep in the Amazon.
