It is most likely because we keep enacting incomprehensible violence and enforcing societal division upon one another. What the hell is wrong with the people who willingly eradicate others and the quarters in our world that enable if not encourage it? Be kind and respectful to your neighbors, especially those black lives who <em>absolutely<\/em> matter yet suffer from the incessant effects of privilege and racism, for it will take all of us to work towards a better, happier, and inclusive future. Don\u2019t let the over-simplifications of our ills as expressed in click-bait headlines, <strong>Twitter<\/strong> hash tags, <strong>Facebook<\/strong> memes, <strong>YouTube<\/strong> videos, and other knee-jerk Internet outrage discourage you from looking deeper, listening harder, thinking critically, and acting constructively, even if it means stepping foot outside your comfort zone. An unconditional, non-romantic, beyond-religious love for the people of planet <strong>Earth<\/strong> is the best special effect we could achieve if we are willing to improve our technique a thousandfold. Every single day, let\u2019s bring out the best version of ourselves that can be mustered and reenergize our compassion for humanity and the greater good. Please. <em>Please<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Among other reasons, this unease is why the entertainment options listed in today\u2019s <strong>Calendar<\/strong> simply don\u2019t look very enticing to us. (It does <em>not<\/em> help when both new wide-release movies, <strong>THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS<\/strong> and <strong>MIKE AND DAVE NEED WEDDING DATES<\/strong>, come off as instantly expendable in their respective trailers and Tuesday\u2019s home video crop should be collectively rated \u201cG\u201d for \u201cGeneric.\u201d) If we <em>must<\/em> draw cinematic straws out of the bunch to recommend, we\u2019ll hand honorary \u201c<strong>FOW<\/strong>\u201d to: the lushly animated <strong>French-Belgian<\/strong> adventure <strong>APRIL AND THE EXTRAORDINARY WORLD<\/strong> (<strong>GKids<\/strong>) from directors <strong>Christian Desmares<\/strong> and <strong>Franck Ekinci<\/strong>, which plays the <strong>Normal Theater<\/strong> in <strong>Normal<\/strong> on <strong>Fri., 7\/8<\/strong>, and <strong>Sun., 7\/10<\/strong>, at <strong>7 p.m.<\/strong>, the Western classic <strong>THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN<\/strong> (<strong>MGM<\/strong>) starring <strong>Yul Brynner<\/strong> and <strong>Steve McQueen<\/strong> and directed by <strong>John Sturges<\/strong>, showing at the <strong>Little Lorraine<\/strong> in <strong>Hoopeston<\/strong> from <strong>7\/8<\/strong> to <strong>7\/10<\/strong>, and the too-timely future shock thriller <strong>THE PURGE: ELECTION YEAR<\/strong> (<strong>Universal Pictures<\/strong>) from returning director\/writer <strong>James DeMonaco<\/strong>, still bringing the on-screen-only anarchy to multiplexes including the <strong>Carmike 13<\/strong> to our north and <strong>Goodrich Savoy 16<\/strong> to our south.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>NOW PLAYING<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">@ The Art Theater Co-op, Champaign, IL: <strong>THE BFG<\/strong> (7\/8 on), <strong>\u201cBig Screen Noir\u201d series feat.
