(In other words, flowery language for \u201cSorry we\u2019re late to the theme party. Did you hear the nine about \u2026 <em>Oops<\/em>, gotta go!\u201d) Therefore, we bequeath unto you <em>nueve <\/em>myriad nuggets before we nod off into the wee hours of the 10th of September\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u2022 One of our favorite fall movie-going traditions returns next month when the <strong>Millikin <\/strong>[<strong>University<\/strong>] <strong>Shadow Cast<\/strong> gears up to take on the reason for their season \u2013 <strong>THE<\/strong> <strong>ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW<\/strong> (1975). You know, the one with a <em>different <\/em>set of jaws. <strong>@ <a title=\"The Avon Theater :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theavon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Avon Theater<\/a>, 426 N. Friday, October 16 &amp; Saturday, October 17, Midnight. $10.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u2022 <strong>Eric Hector <\/strong>of <strong><a title=\"Heroic Age STudios :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.heroicagestudios.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heroic Age Studios<\/a> <\/strong>in <strong>Mt. Zion, IL<\/strong>, is now offering package deals to independent film producers for planning, production, and post-production needs. Equipment available includes the RED camera and a fully-equipped grip truck. Among many jobs currently on the Heroic Age plate are an industrial video shooting this week in <strong>Bloomington-Normal <\/strong>and a series of low-budget feature films that will be made in downstate Illinois.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u2022 <strong>Mike <\/strong>and <strong>Leslie Boedicker <\/strong>of <strong>Roselawn Productions <\/strong>in <strong>Danville, IL<\/strong>, will soon be showing friends and confidants (including <strong>CUBlog <\/strong>personnel) a complete rough cut of their comedic feature, <strong><a title=\"REVOLTING :: Official Site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.revoltingmovie.com\/about.htm\" target=\"_blank\">REVOLTING<\/a><\/strong>. The story involves a disgruntled playwright whose creations taunt him while attempting to capture lighting in a bottle twice. We trust the film itself will get a second shot in the immediate future with the general public; stay tuned right here for updates!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u2022 The <strong><a title=\"IPRH Film Series @ IPRH.Illinois.edu\" href=\"http:\/\/www.iprh.illinois.edu\/programs\/film\/\" target=\"_blank\">IPRH Film Series<\/a> <\/strong>resumes for the 2009-10 academic year with a screening and discussion of <strong>THE TRUMAN SHOW <\/strong>(1998), directed by <strong>Peter Weir <\/strong>and starring <strong>Jim Carrey <\/strong>and <strong>Ed Harris<\/strong>, and how it relates to the \u201ccomplex issue of representation.\u201d The series will continue with <strong>A FACE IN THE CROWD <\/strong>(1957, Oct. 15), <strong>THE GREAT DICTATOR <\/strong>(1940, Oct. 29), and <strong>BRAZIL <\/strong>(1985, Nov. 12). The story concerns a war veteran who learns that he may be the hunted on another man\u2019s property. Taylor intends to arrange a public premiere this fall and has promised to pass along details to <strong>CUBlog <\/strong>when they\u2019re available!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u2022 Finally, in the wake of <strong>Focus Features<\/strong>\u2019 computer-animated adventure <strong>9<\/strong>, directed by <strong>Shane Acker <\/strong>and released in theaters today, we\u2019d like to reintroduce an oldie but goodie that has always been one of our favorite local films here at the <strong>Secret MICRO-FILM Headquarters<\/strong>. Despite its low-tech, Super 8 veneer, we\u2019re eternally amazed at how this little exercise in identity crisis was (mostly) produced by one man on his basement table in Urbana. And, unlike the highly textured rag doll warriors of <strong>9 <\/strong>and all the whiz-bang computers that generated them, one could easily make one\u2019s self a Ping Pong head guy and send him on his merry way into further battles with anguish and <em>ennui<\/em>. <em>Hmm<\/em>, better ask <strong>Johnnie May <\/strong>about that first before you do so.
