FLICKER OF THE WEEK<\/strong><\/p>\n

INDIGNATION<\/strong> (Summit Entertainment\/Roadside Attractions<\/strong>) looks to be an elegant and affecting period drama from writer\/director James Schamus<\/strong> about a Jersey teen (Logan Lerman<\/strong>) who goes to college in Ohio<\/strong> during the Fifties, while KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS<\/strong> (Focus Features<\/strong>) is the latest stop motion\/CGI animated adventure from Laika<\/strong> \u2013 in other words, the closest thing to a work of art in a movie theater near you \u2013 featuring the voices of Art Parkinson, Charlize Theron, Matthew McConaughey, Rooney Mara<\/strong>, and Ralph Fiennes<\/strong> in an Asian-styled fable directed by Travis Knight<\/strong>. A bonus rock-and-roll phantasmagoria that may tempt you is Brian DePalma<\/strong>\u2019s PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE<\/strong> (20th Century Fox<\/strong>), recasting the Doctor Faustus<\/strong><\/span> legend as a music industry send-up featuring William Finley<\/strong> in the title role as well as Paul Williams, Jessica Harper<\/strong>, and Gerrit Graham<\/strong>; the film bombed initially just as THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW<\/strong> would do for Fox a year later, but has taken much longer than ROCKY<\/strong> to find belated audience appreciation. The Art Theater Co-op<\/strong> in Champaign<\/strong> unleashes PHANTOM<\/strong> at 10 p.m.<\/strong> on Sat., 8\/20<\/strong>, and Thurs., 8\/25<\/strong>, and plays INDIGNATION<\/strong> for the rest of their schedule this week, while KUBO<\/strong> defends his samurai legacy in wide release. You can also enjoy INDIGNATION<\/strong> at the Avon Theatre<\/strong> in Decatur<\/strong>. \u201cFOW<\/strong>\u201d is hereby fin<\/em>.<\/p>\n
