FLICKER OF THE WEEK<\/strong><\/p>\n

We\u2019re reading very good things about HELL OR HIGH WATER<\/strong> (CBS Films\/Lionsgate<\/strong>), a contemporary desert noir<\/em> starring Chris Pine<\/strong> and Ben Foster<\/strong> as desperate brothers who rob banks to save the family farm, although a veteran Texas Ranger played by Jeff Bridges<\/strong> is bent on intervening. The filmmaker David Mackenzie<\/strong> may have crafted a true summer sleeper with HELL<\/strong>, opening today at the Goodrich Savoy 16<\/strong> in Savoy<\/strong>. From a sublime character study with pop to an on-the-nose moralist fantasy with Oopma Loompas, we have WILLY WONKA & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY<\/strong> (Warner Bros.<\/strong>), the Gene Wilder<\/strong> vehicle directed by Mel Stuart<\/strong> and adapted from the children\u2019s novella by Roald Dahl<\/strong>; it is amazingly dated and<\/em> timeless with a surrealistic streak that becomes more charming with age. You can buy your golden tickets at the Virginia Theatre<\/strong> in Champaign<\/strong> for shows tomorrow, Sat., 8\/27<\/strong>, at 1<\/strong> and 7 p.m.<\/strong> Finally, the Flatlands Dance Film Festival<\/strong> brings the kinetic dance film subgenre to campus with two distinct shorts programs on Fri., 8\/26<\/strong>, and Sat., 8\/27<\/strong>, both at 7 p.m.<\/strong>, with a bonus screening of the Misty Copeland<\/strong> documentary A BALLERINA\u2019S TALE<\/strong> at 1 p.m. Sat.<\/strong>, all at the UI Spurlock Museum<\/strong> in Urbana<\/strong>. Be aware that admission for this is at \u201cspecial event\u201d prices, so the best deal is the pass costing $25\/general and $20\/student for admission to everything. Leap at the chance! \u201cFOW<\/strong>\u201d is hereby fin<\/em>.<\/p>\n
