FLICKER OF THE WEEK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sure, we\u2019ll morph \u201cFOW<\/strong>\u201d into yet another new designation, \u201cEOW<\/strong>\u201d or \u201c\u2018Eighties\u2019 of the Week<\/strong>,\u201d to bestow upon those titles giving us that warm and fuzzy flashback feeling from summer eras past! Urbana<\/strong> native Michael Wiese<\/strong> may have produced the first notable STAR WARS<\/strong> spoof\/homage HARDWARE WARS<\/strong>, made in 1978 with other creative young artists in San Francisco<\/strong>, but it was five years later in 1982 when three preteens from Mississippi<\/strong> set out to film an amateur shot-for-shot remake of RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK<\/strong> (Lucasfilm\/Paramount Pictures<\/strong>) that would consume all their summer breaks through high school. The nearly finished result, dubbed RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK: THE ADAPTATION<\/strong>, eventually developed a cult reputation among connoisseurs of the obscure, encouraging the now-adults to regroup and attempt to finish a quarter-century later what they had started. If previous articles and the same-named book covering the history of this epic remake are any indication, RAIDERS! THE STORY OF THE GREATEST FAN FILM EVER MADE<\/strong> (Drafthouse Films<\/strong>) will dramatize the amazing lengths taken by these boys to realize their lo-fi vision even when it cost them love and friendship. The Normal Theater<\/strong> is showing the documentary, created by Tim Skousen<\/strong> and Jeremy Coon<\/strong>, on Sat., 9\/3, 7 p.m.<\/strong>, with a reprise next Fri., 9\/9<\/strong>, also at 7 p.m.<\/strong>; the seminal 1981 adventure classic starring Harrison Ford<\/strong> and Karen Allen<\/strong> and directed by Steven Spielberg<\/strong> will play tonight, Fri., 9\/2, 10:30 p.m.<\/strong>, and tomorrow, Sat., 9\/3, 1 p.m.<\/strong>, for comparison\u2019s sake. Also reaching for Spielbergian skies are the organizers of the Urbanalove<\/strong> outdoor shows; at dusk tomorrow, Sat., 9\/3<\/strong>, in the Busey Bank<\/strong> parking lot at the corner of Main<\/strong> and Race<\/strong> streets in Urbana, the fantasy master\u2019s 1982 follow-up to RAIDERS<\/strong>, E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL<\/strong> (Amblin Entertainment\/Universal Studios<\/strong>), will delight the downtown audience and bring this warm-weather series to a close for 2016. Finally, the Lincoln Square Theatre<\/strong> in Decatur<\/strong> will unleash James Cameron<\/strong>\u2019s still-impressive military science fiction hit ALIENS<\/strong> (20th Century Fox<\/strong>) just past the 30th anniversary of its original 1986 release later tonight, Fri., 9\/2, 8 p.m.<\/strong>, as part of a revival set that also includes STAND BY ME, EMPIRE RECORDS<\/strong>, and BEETLEJUICE<\/strong> in the coming weeks; we are simply bursting at the chest with happiness to see the Lincoln, which reaches its centenary of existence next month, back in the movie business where it belongs! \u201cEOW<\/strong>\u201d is hereby fin<\/em>.
