It begins with <strong>CASABLANCA<\/strong> (<strong>Warner Bros.<\/strong>) at the <strong>Virginia Theatre<\/strong> in <strong>Champaign<\/strong> tomorrow, <strong>Sat., 9\/17, 1<\/strong> and<strong> 7 p.m.<\/strong>, as this month\u2019s entry in the <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">News-Gazette<\/span><\/strong> sponsored classic film series. <strong>Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman<\/strong>, and <strong>Paul Henreid<\/strong> headline this oft-cited tale of lost love and international intrigue set primarily at a hopping nightclub in the Moroccan city of <strong>Casablanca<\/strong>, shrouded by the looming specter of Nazism. Directed by <strong>Michael Curtiz<\/strong>, <strong>CASABLANCA<\/strong> is as much a touchstone of the <strong>Hollywood<\/strong> \u201cGolden Era\u201d as is <strong>THE MALTESE FALCON<\/strong> (<strong>Warner Bros.<\/strong>), which plays the<strong> Normal Theater<\/strong> in <strong>Normal<\/strong> on <strong>Wed., 9\/21, 7 p.m.<\/strong>, as the first selection of <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"The Six Week Film School - Film Noir: Visual Style and Fortune :: The Normal Theater\" href=\"http:\/\/normaltheater.com\/index.aspx?NID=73\" target=\"_blank\">a \u201cSix Week Film School\u201d focusing on film <em>noir<\/em><\/a><\/span>. <strong>John Huston<\/strong> made his directorial debut with this crackling mystery, starring Bogart as private eye Sam Spade from the <strong>Dashiell Hammett<\/strong> pulp stories along with <strong>Mary Astor, Gladys George, Peter Lorre, Sydney Greenstreet<\/strong>, and \u201cthe black bird,\u201d an iconic cinema MacGuffin if there ever was one; distinctive character actors Greenstreet and Lorre also appeared in <strong>CASABLANCA<\/strong> the following year. Coincidentally, a repackage of vintage favorites released this past <strong>Tues., 9\/13<\/strong>, \u201c<strong>Bogart &amp; Bacall: 6-Film Collection<\/strong>\u201d (<strong>Warner Bros.
