{"id":1027,"date":"2009-09-13T01:09:38","date_gmt":"2009-09-13T07:09:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=1027"},"modified":"2014-09-06T14:57:05","modified_gmt":"2014-09-06T20:57:05","slug":"a-tale-of-two-informants-sorta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=1027","title":{"rendered":"A tale of two INFORMANTs, sorta"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Since <strong>C-U Blogfidential <\/strong>is not even close to being high enough up the food chain to be thrown promotional scraps (e.g., invitations to preview screenings, canned interviews, exclusive photos, etc.) by <strong>Warner Bros.<\/strong>, we have to be a bit creative in how we cover <strong>THE INFORMANT!<\/strong> Our headline <em>doesn\u2019t <\/em>pertain to an in-depth book-to-screen comparison or an imagined <strong>Mark Whitacre<\/strong>\/<strong>Matt Damon <\/strong>face-off or even a chart cross-referencing the non-parallels between this <strong>INFORMANT!<\/strong> and the 1997 <strong>Hallmark <\/strong>television movie <strong>THE INFORMANT<\/strong> starring <strong>Timothy Dalton<\/strong>. That is, unless one counts the line of dialogue spoken by Damon as Whitacre about being like an agent \u201cdouble-oh-fourteen\u201d because he\u2019s twice as smart as a certain fictional super spy, but we digress.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Instead, while scouring the Internet for <strong>INFORMANT!<\/strong> related details, we discovered an alternate poster for the film (see below) which we presumed was just a \u201cB\u201d design meant to attract one\u2019s attention if the \u201cA\u201d poster (see item: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=1006\" target=\"_self\">9\/7\/09<\/a>) didn\u2019t do the trick. Your humble editor certainly prefers \u201cB\u201d over \u201cA,\u201d if for no other reason than its stylized type face and graphics recall <strong>Hollywood <\/strong>marketing in the Fifties for topical dramas such as <strong>THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM<\/strong> (1954), <strong>BLACKBOARD JUNGLE <\/strong>(1955), <strong>SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS <\/strong>(1957), and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=1015\" target=\"_self\">previously mentioned<\/a> <strong>A FACE IN THE CROWD<\/strong> (1957). The aesthetic choice is somewhat anachronistic, given the film\u2019s comedic tone and contemporary setting, but it looks cool nonetheless. Luckily, someone across the pond elected to use the \u201cB\u201d style for the <strong>United Kingdom<\/strong> release on <strong>November 20<\/strong>, carried over to <a title=\"THE INFORMANT :: Official Site (UK)\" href=\"http:\/\/wwws.warnerbros.co.uk\/theinformant\/\" target=\"_blank\">this Web site<\/a> which simply looks nicer than <a title=\"THE INFORMANT! :: Official Site (U.S.)\" href=\"http:\/\/theinformantmovie.warnerbros.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">its U.S. counterpart<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Warner Bros. noticeably updated both last weekend on the eve of the <strong>Venice <\/strong>and <strong>Toronto <\/strong>play dates for <strong>THE INFORMANT!<\/strong> Fun items to look for include streaming cuts from <strong>Marvin Hamlisch<\/strong>\u2019s offbeat music score and an extensive photo gallery on the U.S. site along with a downloadable PDF\u00a0of production notes from the UK site. One can also zip through the <strong>IMDb.com<\/strong> <a title=\"THE INFORMANT! media index @ IMDb.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1130080\/mediaindex\" target=\"_blank\">photo gallery<\/a>, which seems to include images not available on either the U.S. or UK sites, along with their <a title=\"THE INFORMANT! combined details @ IMDb.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1130080\/combined\" target=\"_blank\">expansive credits listing<\/a> so you can find out which of your friends and neighbors were connected well enough to work on the show.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">~ Jason Pankoke<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"THE INFORMANT!
