FLICKER OF THE WEEK<\/strong><\/p>\n

DEEPWATER HORIZON<\/strong> (Summit Entertainment\/Lionsgate<\/strong>), directed by Peter Berg<\/strong> and starring Mark Wahlberg<\/strong> and Kurt Russell<\/strong>, looks to be a harrowing American action film pulled from the headlines, in this case dramatizing events from 2010 when an oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico<\/strong>. QUEEN OF KATWE<\/strong> (ESPN Films\/Disney<\/strong>), directed by Mira Nair<\/strong> and starring Madina Nalwaga, Lupita Nyong\u2019o<\/strong>, and David Oyelowo<\/strong>, looks to be an Americanized family movie pulled from more subdued headlines, retelling the story of a young Ugandan<\/strong> girl who mastered chess with a poverty-stricken culture as her backdrop. While both releases are playing nationwide as of today, Fri., 9\/30<\/strong>, Champaign-Urbana<\/strong> culture-goers have been lapping up debut performances of the current entry in University of Illinois<\/strong> professor Deke Weaver<\/strong>\u2019s innovative series, \u201cThe Unreliable Bestiary<\/strong>,\u201d which is \u201can ark of stories about animals, our relationships with them, and the worlds they inhabit.\u201d Complimented by a Web site<\/a><\/span>, DVDs, and books, the live multimedia component has expanded to include a fourth species, \u201cBEAR<\/strong>,\u201d and involves audience members journeying from the UI Krannert Center for the Performing Arts<\/strong> in Urbana to an undisclosed location where Weaver and associates put on their show. The \u201cfall chapter\u201d of \u201cBEAR\u201d continues this weekend from Wed., 9\/28<\/strong>, to Sun, 10\/2<\/strong>. \u201cFOW<\/strong>\u201d is hereby fin<\/em>.<\/p>\n
