Closer to town, the home office of the Goodrich Savoy 16 is obviously whetting appetites for the release of FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM (Warner Bros.) next month by revisiting HARRY POTTER, to which the new one serves as a prelude; their IMAX screen will therefore receive a wizarding workout by presenting all eight entries of the 2001-2011 series during the next week. Yet, much farther away from town at the Lincoln Grand 8 in Lincoln, something arguably more magical will be materializing. Venue owner David Lanterman and Hollywood animators/directors Brenda Chapman (THE PRINCE OF EGYPT) and Kevin Lima (ENCHANTED) have partnered on the somewhat out-of-the-blue Lincoln Film Festival, which had not been a topic of conversation in our circles du C-U until the filmmakers stumped for their show during an appearance at the Pens to Lens gala in August. One part showcase of international shorts and documentaries, one part incubator for all-ages inspiration, one part platform to promote the participation of women in film, and one part screening opportunity for (very select) local productions, the venture will be an interesting sell in a non-hub of downstate cultural activity. We hope the project succeeds with flying colors in this first edition, as the itinerary looks like a well-considered one worth pursuing, so make some time if you can to jet down to Lincoln; the town lies roughly an hour past either Decatur or Springfield. The Lincoln Film Festival runs from today to Sun., 10/16, alternating between workshops, receptions, short film blocks, and a handful of appropriate big-screen features including the Oscar-winner BRAVE co-directed by Chapman. “FOW” is hereby fin.

LOCAL FILMS, ETC. | Media that Hits Close to Home

@ Lincoln Grand 8, Lincoln, IL
Lincoln Film Festival feat.
