FLICKER OF THE WEEK | Suggestions in Full-Motion Arts<\/strong><\/p>\n

After the conclusion of another successful New Art Film Festival<\/strong>, an extended Halloween<\/strong> weekend, and a gloriously epic win by the Chicago Cubs<\/strong> over the Cleveland Indians<\/strong> to seal their first World Series<\/strong> championship since 1908, the only other things we could possibly want this week at the Secret MICRO-FILM Headquarters<\/strong> are rest and a big mound of peace and happiness. Therefore, we cross our fingers in the faint hope the makers of animated comedy TROLLS<\/strong> (DreamWorks\/20th Century Fox<\/strong>), opening nationwide today, Fri., 11\/4<\/strong>, were savvy enough to incorporate the only tuft-haired member of their tribe who could possibly satisfy our needs in contrast to the precocious and generic ones appearing in the ad campaign \u2013 Tiny Tim<\/strong> troll, an actual variation on the collectible dolls<\/a><\/span> of Danish origin that was based on the late novelty singer of THE TONIGHT SHOW<\/strong> and \u201cTip-Toe Thru\u2019 the Tulips With Me<\/strong>\u201d infamy. All other mainstream concessions in the candy-colored adventure, featuring voice work by Justin Timberlake, Zooey Deschanel, Anna Kendrick, James Corden<\/strong>, and Russell Brand<\/strong>, can be (nearly) forgiven if that doe-eyed, dark-haired creature would cameo with his ukulele and otherworldly flower-power falsetto. We\u2019re not sure if we\u2019d be willing to fork over first-run prices to find out, however, so let\u2019s instead consider the quiet contemplation of the newest Kelly Reichardt<\/strong> drama, CERTAIN WOMEN<\/strong> (IFC Films<\/strong>), starring Kristin Stewart, Laura Dern<\/strong>, and Michelle Williams<\/strong>, or the loud legacy wrought by Iggy Pop<\/strong> and The Stooges<\/strong> in the documentary GIMME DANGER<\/strong> (Magnolia Pictures\/Amazon Studios<\/strong>) directed by Jim Jarmusch<\/strong>; both start week-long runs at the Art Theater Co-op<\/strong> today. If letting the idiocy loose pre-Election Day<\/strong> is what you need, check out the too-timely revival of IDIOCRACY<\/strong> (20th Century Fox<\/strong>) later tonight at either the Lincoln Square Theatre<\/strong> in Decatur<\/strong> at 8 p.m.<\/strong> or the Normal Theater<\/strong> in Normal<\/strong> at 10:30 p.m.<\/strong> This live-action satire from KING OF THE HILL<\/strong> co-creator Mike Judge<\/strong> bombed in its 2006 theatrical run but, not unlike its protagonist played by Luke Wilson<\/strong>, reawakens in a future of head-scratching cerebral attrition; Maya Rudolph, Dax Shepherd<\/strong>, and Terry Crews<\/strong> co-star. \u201cFOW<\/strong>\u201d is hereby fin<\/em>.<\/p>\n
