You\u2019re reserving as much disposable income as you can to indulge yourselves with one or more screenings of ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY<\/strong> (Lucasfilm\/Bad Robot\/Walt Disney Co.<\/strong>) after it opens next Thurs., 12\/15<\/strong>, and possibly splurge on related merchandise after that. Between placating that preordained Disneyfied Lucasfix of yours as well as covering holiday shopping, costs of living, end-of-year taxes, and so on, you\u2019re otherwise strapped for dollars and time as 2016 nears its conclusion. We\u2019re not imploring you to partake in cinema-going this week since the galactic extravaganza you desire is not very far, far away. However, do<\/em> pay mind to the many other people who simply can\u2019t or won\u2019t expend the cash flow or enthusiasm on this (or any) Mouse House brand. For those discerning individuals, \u201cFOW<\/strong>\u201d exists. Smart(er) science fiction is already playing a theater near you such as ARRIVAL<\/strong> (Paramount Pictures<\/strong>), directed by Denis Villeneuve<\/strong> and starring Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner<\/strong>, and Forest Whitaker<\/strong> in the story of a linguist\u2019s attempts to communicate with an alien life form landed on Earth<\/strong>, and CHILDREN OF MEN<\/strong> (Universal Pictures<\/strong>), the acclaimed 2006 dystopian tale directed by Alfonso Cuar\u00f3n<\/strong> and starring Clive Owen, Julianne Moore<\/strong>, and Michael Caine<\/strong>, wherein the planet is war-torn, our species infertile, and Great Britain<\/strong> bent on repelling immigrants as it has been transformed into a police state. Cheap(er) fare is now available on streaming and home video as of Tues., 12\/6<\/strong>, including smash hits like THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS<\/strong> and JASON BOURNE<\/strong> (both Universal Pictures Home Entertainment<\/strong>), acclaimed dramas like DON\u2019T THINK TWICE<\/strong> (Universal) and THE HOLLARS<\/strong> (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment<\/strong>), cult sequels like ATTACK ON TITAN: PART 2<\/strong> (Funimation<\/strong>) and PHANTASM: RAVAGER<\/strong> (Well Go USA Entertainment<\/strong>), Ron Howard<\/strong>\u2019s well-liked documentary THE BEATLES: EIGHT DAYS A WEEK \u2013 THE TOURING YEARS<\/strong> (PolyGram\/Universal<\/strong>), and Steven Spielberg<\/strong>\u2019s underappreciated THE BFG<\/strong> (Walt Disney), muting the need to brave December\u2019s sudden flirtation with subfreezing weather.
