(Photo: Atomic TV)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog Art\/cu_shat_hairpieceA.jpg\" width=\"450\" height=\"335\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Fellow citizens will be hanging on every moment (or steering completely clear) of today\u2019s inauguration at <strong>11:30 a.m. CST<\/strong> when Mr. Make America Great Again pledges to do what a president of the <strong>United States of America<\/strong> is tasked with doing. Contradicting his own words, paving inroads for corporate influence to flood <strong>Capitol Hill<\/strong>, and belittling women and persons of color at will are three of his many previous behaviors that <em>cannot<\/em> continue. The incoming cabinet, populated by creatures of regressive habits, also seems hell bent on divisive doctrine instead of truly encouraging American unity. We must guard against the potential ill effects of their decisions and protect neighbors who may become more vulnerable than before due to gender, skin color, religion, medical needs, or financial insecurity. While imperfect, the tenure of outgoing <strong>President Barack Obama<\/strong> at least left us feeling more human and vital in the fight for cultural discussion and social progress with a stabilized economy in place; we will have to work even harder at it under this new rule.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Captain Kirk and Ensign Hegan plan an escape roue from a fan convention in WILLIAM SHATNER LENT ME HIS HAIRPIECE. We could only think of one video that might illustrate our misgivings and equally lend itself to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>C-U Blogfidential<\/strong><\/span> inclusion, an older parody about hero worship and consumerism and artificial weaves, oh my! <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Ken Hegan @ WordPress\" href=\"https:\/\/kenhegan.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Vancouver<\/strong>-based humorist <strong>Ken Hegan<\/strong><\/a><\/span> is a contributor to the <strong>Canadian Broadcasting Network<\/strong>, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Undrudgery \u2013 Ken Hegan interview :: Vancouver is Awesome\" href=\"http:\/\/vancouverisawesome.com\/2011\/11\/23\/undrudgery-ken-hegan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an established travel columnist<\/a><\/span>, and senior copy writer at the <strong>Blast Radius<\/strong> firm. Hegan also makes the occasional film short such as <strong>WILLIAM SHATNER LENT ME HIS HAIRPIECE: AN UNTRUE STORY<\/strong> (1996), starring himself as an overzealous fan who desires the perks bestowed on <strong>Montr\u00e9al<\/strong>\u2019s favorite stargazing son, <strong>William Shatner<\/strong>, played by <strong>Gary Jones<\/strong> (<strong>STARGATE SG-1<\/strong>). They meet and agree to place atop Hegan\u2019s cranium the catalyst of Shatner\u2019s glory \u2013 his toup\u00e9e, stored on a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Hamlet<\/strong><\/span> prop where it makes dead-of-night calls to seal all those deals \u2013 for two weeks. Hegan realizes the piece is a decoy and steals the real (non-\u201cBones\u201d) McCoy. Chaos ensues!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/embed\/AtomicTVNotARepeatArchive.org\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We could not find an official stream of <strong>HAIRPIECE<\/strong> to embed for you, dearly distressed, so we turn to a remnant from the Nineties underground that once spread its roots across this great land! <strong>Scott Huffines<\/strong> and <strong>Tom Warner<\/strong> of the <strong>Baltimore, MD<\/strong>, alternative shop <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Atomic Books :: Home Page\" href=\"https:\/\/atomicbooks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Atomic Books<\/strong><\/a><\/span> produced a micro-budget m\u00e9lange titled <strong>ATOMIC TV<\/strong>, airing on local cable access for a decade and filled with outsider delights. Luckily, the gang has <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Atomic TV :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.atomicteevee.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">finally migrated <strong>ATOMIC TV<\/strong> episodes to the World Wide Web<\/a><\/span> including an unnumbered show from 1999, \u201c<strong>Not a Repeat<\/strong>,\u201d in which <strong>HAIRPIECE<\/strong> appears; skip to the 42:15 mark where an animated Warner introduces the 13-minute-long opus. Our host also mentions its appearance in 1997 at the first annual <strong>MicroCineFest<\/strong>, an awesome stop on the indie film circuit of yore organized by the great <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Skizz Cyzyk :: Personal Site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.skizz.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Skizz Cyzyk<\/strong><\/a><\/span> to the delight of Charm City denizens and lo-fi moviemakers. That same fall season, <strong>HAIRPIECE<\/strong> played the second night of the inaugural <strong>Freaky Film Festival<\/strong> on <strong>Sunday, November 2<\/strong>, in <strong>Urbana<\/strong>\u2019s <strong>Channing-Murray Foundation<\/strong>, hereby connecting Hegan\u2019s farce to the home front.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Gary Jones sets his mugging on 'stun' in WILLIAM SHATNER LENT ME HIS HAIRPIECE. If we substitute in our minds the president-elect for Shatner, his misdirected voters for Hegan, and any one of his orange herring promises for the toup\u00e9e, <strong>HAIRPIECE<\/strong>\u2019s panic doesn\u2019t seem all that removed from skittish public discourse <em>a la<\/em> <strong>Donald J. Trump<\/strong>, does it? As much as our cynical selves tend to demonize politicians for subsisting on double- and non-speak to avoid making claims or promises they can\u2019t back up, Trump has managed to lay down next-level verbal waste during the debates with <strong>Hillary Rodham Clinton<\/strong>, in the professional news media, and on social platforms \u2013 <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Donald J. Trump @ Twitter\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a sad trend that may continue<\/a><\/span> well beyond today, <strong>Friday, January 20<\/strong>, unless his advisors reign him in \u2013 while still being picked by the <strong>Electoral College<\/strong> after losing the popular vote. (In a telling press conference bit, Shatner nonchalantly blathers to reporters \u2013 \u201c\u2026blah blah blah, the <em><strong>Enterprise<\/strong><\/em>, blah blah <em>blah<\/em> blah\u201d \u2013 after \u201c[forgetting] what had made him a star\u201d per the droll Hegan narration.) Needless to say, this <strong>Roger Corman<\/strong> production <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"The Intruder :: Senses of Cinema\" href=\"http:\/\/sensesofcinema.com\/2013\/cteq\/the-intruder-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rankled nerves and lost money<\/a><\/span> after several thwarted attempts to get it made and distributed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>p.s.6<\/em> As 2017 continues, we will be making references to 1997 as a pivotal year in Champaign-Urbana film arts and, by extension, our Confidential lifestyle. Expect us to memorialize the <strong>Freaky Film Festival<\/strong> on its 20th anniversary later in the fall. We now shed tears for the modern <strong>University of Illinois<\/strong> student body with no clue as to all these unorthodox film pleasures that were cooked up and devoured with glee by their predecessors. <em>Snif<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>p.s.8<\/em> You know what dries these weeping eyes, folks? <strong>Godzilla<\/strong> movies raiding <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>CUBlog<\/strong><\/span> again!
