Produced over a four-week shoot last September and October in <strong>Chicago<\/strong> and downstate <strong>Pontiac, IL<\/strong>, the comedy-drama is about young adults seeking their niche while a factory strike looms over their small town. Following additional festival play and respectable press notices during the next two years, <strong>35 MILES<\/strong> finally opened commercially on <strong>Friday, May 14, 1999<\/strong>, at the <strong>GKC Crescent Theaters<\/strong> in Pontiac according to the <strong>Bloomington<\/strong> (IL) <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Pantagraph<\/strong><\/span>. Although this was to have launched a self-distribution push by Pontiac native Schwahn and Chicago-based producer <strong>James D. Stern<\/strong> for the film, doubling as publicity for eventual home video releases, <strong>35 MILES<\/strong> never found its own niche and is impossible to see despite the notable entertainment credits amassed since then by both men as well as cast members <strong>Ethan Supplee<\/strong> and <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u2018Moana,\u2019 \u2018Rogue One\u2019 Star Alan Tudyk Looks Back on First Film Role :: Variety\" href=\"http:\/\/variety.com\/2016\/film\/features\/moana-rogue-one-alan-tudyk-1201925187\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Alan Tudyk<\/strong><\/a><\/span>. Of course, when it comes to the 34th annual <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"2017 Insect Fear Film Festival :: Department of Entomology, UIUC\" href=\"http:\/\/www.life.illinois.edu\/entomology\/egsa\/ifff.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Insect Fear Film Festival<\/strong><\/a><\/span> tomorrow, <strong>Sat., 2\/25<\/strong>, at <strong>Foellinger Auditorium<\/strong> on the <strong>University of Illinois<\/strong> main quad, \u201clivening up\u201d involves a lot of creeping and crawling! Famed insect expert <strong>May Berenbaum<\/strong> and the <strong>Entomology Graduate Student Association<\/strong> plan on \u201cscaring the general public with horrific films and horrific filmmaking\u201d once again with a pair from prolific B-film producer <strong>Paul Hertzberg<\/strong>, a UI \u201971 graduate in business and CEO of the long-running independent distributor <strong>CineTel Films<\/strong>. After doors open at<strong> 6 p.m.<\/strong> so families can encourage their little ones to bug out with face painting, a children\u2019s art gallery, and dozens of live and preserved specimens, Berenbaum will offer opening remarks at<strong> 7 p.m.<\/strong> to be followed at <strong>7:30 p.m.<\/strong> by the unlikely 2016 sequel <strong>2 LAVA 2 LANTULA<\/strong>, starring former <strong>POLICE ACADEMY<\/strong> mates <strong>Steve Guttenberg<\/strong> and <strong>Michael Winslow<\/strong> as reluctant arachnid busters. Then, an on-stage discussion with guest Hertzberg will take place and lead up to <strong>CAVED IN<\/strong>, a 2006 underground thriller in which stars <strong>Christopher Atkins<\/strong> and <strong>Colm Meaney<\/strong> battle oversized beetles. Insect Fear is free to attend as is the 3rd annual <strong>Sustainability Shorts Film Festival<\/strong>, set for the main lounge of the UI <strong>Lincoln Avenue Residence Hall, 1005 S. Lincoln Ave.<\/strong>, at the exact same day and time, <strong>7 p.m.<\/strong> on <strong>Sat., 2\/25<\/strong>. <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"2017 Sustainability Shorts Film Festival Program :: University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign\" href=\"https:\/\/illinois.edu\/blog\/view\/1533\/461814\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The schedule for this year\u2019s show<\/a><\/span>, presented by the <strong>Sustainability Living-Learning Community<\/strong> and organized by program director <strong>Jennifer Bechtel<\/strong>, readily hints at the environmental concerns raised by the selections while providing a more serious angle on how insects, animals, humans, and ecological disaster affect our world. To end, we send a long-distance dedication to those students running the in-progress 39th annual <strong>Big Muddy Film Festival<\/strong>, offering contemporary and topical work to audiences at <strong>Southern Illinois University<\/strong> and in the <strong>Carbondale<\/strong> community. Three days remain in their itinerary \u2013 blanket heads for film blocks include \u201cPoetry Films,\u201d \u201cHomelessness Awareness,\u201d \u201cExperimental Structure Films,\u201d and \u201cIt Came From Big Muddy\u201d \u2013 and will wrap with a <strong>3 p.m.<\/strong> \u201cBest of Fest\u201d program on <strong>Sun., 2\/26<\/strong>, at the <strong>Longbranch Caf\u00e9 &amp; Bakery, 100 E. Jackson St., Carbondale<\/strong>.
