{"id":1107,"date":"2009-10-04T22:57:00","date_gmt":"2009-10-05T04:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=1107"},"modified":"2014-09-06T14:57:04","modified_gmt":"2014-09-06T20:57:04","slug":"premonition-is-now-a-certain-ty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=1107","title":{"rendered":"Premonition is now CERTAIN-ty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>C-U Blogfidential<\/strong> has been around long enough, starting with our debut as the \u201c<strong>C-U Confidential<\/strong>\u201d section in the original <strong>MICRO-FILM<\/strong> released 10 years ago this month, to verify that the best filmic intentions in our backyard do not always pan out. It is as much a matter of wishful thinking versus concrete realization as it is whether one\u2019s filmmaking dreams will fall victim to the inevitable life changes lurking in the future \u2013 particularly with college students once they graduate. Suffice it to say, <strong>Derek Klein<\/strong> and <strong>Marc Morin, Jr.<\/strong>, seem to have avoided this potential quandary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The fellow <strong>University of Illinois<\/strong> alums followed up their set-on-campus television serial <strong>ONE FINE DAY!<\/strong> with a feature-length drama called <strong>A CERTAIN POINT OF VIEW<\/strong>, which we briefly reported on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=311\" target=\"_self\">over here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=486\" target=\"_self\">over there<\/a>. Since the filming took place during Spring Break 2009, again on the UIUC grounds and C-U vicinity, Klein has moved the duo\u2019s <strong>Premonition Pictures <\/strong>from <strong>Chicago <\/strong>to <strong>Los Angeles <\/strong>in the hopes of finding success in the heart of the business we call show. <strong>CERTAIN <\/strong>has certainly not been put on the back burner, as evidenced by a second trailer released in July:<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"450\" height=\"273\" data=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/4nkq3sdvgzw&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1&amp;\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/4nkq3sdvgzw&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1&amp;\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">What initially looked like a post-graduate dramedy from the original teaser trailer that we showed at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=734\" target=\"_self\"><strong>C-U Confidential Local Movie Show<\/strong> in April<\/a> has morphed before our eyes into a different beast entirely with this one \u2013 it\u2019s a <em>murder mystery<\/em>, too? We\u2019ll ultimately see for ourselves once Premonition releases the DVD on <strong>December 16<\/strong>, but at the least we can tell Klein changed it up by casting his <strong>OFD!<\/strong> regulars in radically different roles. <strong>CUBlog <\/strong>also likes the <strong>SPIDER-MAN <\/strong>style titles, although the best effect in trailer no.2 <em>has <\/em>to be the straight face that actress <strong>Brittney Refakes <\/strong>keeps while calling our town(s) \u201cChambana\u201d \u2013 as a reporter on a news cast!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Klein also seems to be wasting no time in helping other filmmakers as both the <a title=\"KUMAR'S DAY AT THE PARK @ PremonitionPictures.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.premonitionpictures.com\/Premonition_Pictures\/Kumar.html\" target=\"_blank\">brand-new Premonition Web site<\/a> and the <a title=\"ONE FINE DAY! :: Official Site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.onefinedaytv.com\/Home.html\" target=\"_blank\">old-school <strong>OFD!<\/strong> page<\/a> promote an additional \u201cChristmas release\u201d of a silent-era homage called <strong>KUMAR\u2019S DAY AT THE PARK<\/strong>, produced by <strong>1896 Films <\/strong>and directed by <strong>Andrew Blackwood<\/strong>. The log line reads, \u201cWhen a hungry young Indian Man discovers a basket full of food he just found isn\u2019t free, he must evade capture to win the love of his bemused sweetheart.\u201d We\u2019ll cross our fingers that <strong>White Castle <\/strong>hamburgers are nowhere to be found in this adventure.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">For now, we\u2019ll end with images taken at the aforementioned <strong>CUZine <\/strong>event by the talented <strong>Jamie Newell <\/strong>\u2013 <a title=\"Jamie Newell Photography @ Smugmug.com\" href=\"http:\/\/jamienewell.smugmug.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">photographer<\/a>, novelist, journalist, <a title=\"Jamie Newell racing column @ SmilePolitely.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.smilepolitely.com\/sports\/category\/the_call_to_the_post\/\" target=\"_blank\">horse race aficionado<\/a> \u2013 that we should have posted a long time ago.
