\u2022 The Illini Film & Video<\/strong><\/a> meeting taking place later tonight, Monday, October 12<\/strong>, at 6:30 p.m.<\/strong>, will be the first in several years to not<\/em> occur in the English Building<\/strong>. Instead, head a couple doors south to Gregory Hall, UIUC, 810 S. Wright St., Urbana, IL<\/strong>, and seek out Room 221<\/strong>. It sounds like the move may be permanent.<\/p>\n \u2022 As it turns out, the appearance by Marlee Matlin<\/strong> is not a figment of our imagination. She will speak at a free event on Wednesday, October 14, 8 p.m.<\/strong>, in the Illini Rooms<\/strong> of the Illini Union, UIUC, 1401 W. Green St., Urbana, IL<\/strong>, sponsored by the Illini Union Board<\/strong> and LGBT Resource Center<\/strong>. Being a long-time advocate in several movements, the actress best known for THE L WORD<\/strong>, THE WEST WING<\/strong>, and CHILDREN OF A LESSER GOD<\/strong> will certainly have plenty to talk about, not the least of which is her own efforts to overcome a hearing disability and find success.<\/p>\n \u2022 On the following evening, Thursday, October 15<\/strong>, the next round of Skip Huston<\/strong> film classes will commence at the Avon Theater<\/a>, 426 N. Water St., Decatur, IL<\/strong>, starting at 6:30 p.m.<\/strong> The Head Honcho resumes partnership with Richland Community College<\/strong> with this series, \u201c8 Great Directors,\u201d so you will need to sign up promptly at the Avon or register by calling (217) 875-7211 x265<\/strong>. Cost will be $80 for eight weeks\u2019 worth of cinema awesomeness.<\/p>\n \u2022 Need we remind you that THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW<\/strong> would love to touch-a<\/em> touch-a<\/em> touch-a<\/em> touch you, should you attend the Midnight<\/strong> shows at the Avon on Friday, October 16<\/strong>, and\/or Saturday, October 17<\/strong>? On top of that, Huston just announced the Avon\u2019s Halloween<\/strong> programming for Saturday, October 31<\/strong>: the Lon Chaney, Jr.<\/strong>, classic THE WOLF MAN<\/strong> (1941) and Mario Bava<\/strong>\u2019s iconic Gothic chiller, BLACK SUNDAY<\/strong> (1961), starring Barbara Steele<\/strong>. Tickets will cost $10 for the former; the latter two are free with show times TBA.<\/p>\n
