(Photo: courtesy Malachi Entertainment)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog Art\/cu_words_bridge.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"373\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Sometimes, the act of preparing the <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"New Art Film Festival :: Official Site\" href=\"https:\/\/newartfilmfestival.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>New Art Film Festival<\/strong><\/a><\/span> results in a circumstance that ultimately does not allow us to play a piece that would have been right at home in our program. The last-minute inclusion of a teaser for the dramatic short <strong>WORDS<\/strong>, as an example, gave us a way to help spread the word for its creator, <strong>Jarrod Finn<\/strong> of <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Malachi Entertainment @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/malachientertainmentcompany\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Malachi Entertainment<\/strong><\/a><\/span> in <strong>Urbana<\/strong>, even though the NAFF submission period had long been closed. With his first effort as director, writer, and producer now completed and streaming online, <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">C-U Blogfidential<\/span><\/strong> encourages our dearest viewers to take a look. <strong>WORDS<\/strong> examines \u201ca young writer\u2019s battle with depression and anxiety disorder,\u201d per the official logline, \u201cand how her writing and community help guide her out of her darkness,\u201d apparently drawing from Finn\u2019s own personal struggles along these lines. Days are filled with internal and irrational upheaval for lead character Jordan (<strong>Kimmy Schofield<\/strong>), toggling between solitary moments of unease, votes of confidence and support from her mother (<strong>Cara Maurizi<\/strong>) and friends (<strong>Dominique Allen, William Anthony Sebastian Rose II<\/strong>), and abstract nightmare moments staged like a theatrical play. Luckily, the light at the end of the dark tunnel Jordan regularly finds herself in can shine brightly with the proper positives in place&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RSilJkc92xM\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Malachi team also has present, past, and future projects in various stages of fruition. Shooting this month is <strong>NOTES OF RASPBERRY<\/strong>, Finn\u2019s first comedic outing that is written by <strong>Thomas Nicol<\/strong> (<strong>WRITER\u2019S BLOCK<\/strong>, NAFF \u201917) and stars <strong>Evan Seggebruch<\/strong> and <strong>Jace Jamison<\/strong>. Restored to the schedule is a pilot for <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"EMPOWERED @ Indiegogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.indiegogo.com\/projects\/empowered-the-series-superheroes--2#\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>EMPOWERED<\/strong>, a proposed Web series<\/a><\/span> to be directed by <strong>Kris Wilcox<\/strong> (<strong>RISE<\/strong>, NAFF \u201916) about young women with superhero identities; auditions for open roles will take place at <strong>Collider CoWork, 123 W. Main St., Suite 220, Urbana<\/strong>, on <strong>Saturday, January 6, 10:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.<\/strong> with callbacks the next day. In addition, Finn has begun drafting a script for a <strong>WORDS<\/strong> follow-up. Away from the camera, Malachi hosted a pair of short film presentations at the <strong>Urbana Independent Media Center<\/strong> in recent weeks including the <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"ChamPain Indie Horror Fest :: Home Page\" href=\"https:\/\/champainindiehorrorfest.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>ChamPain Indie Horror Fest<\/strong><\/a><\/span> on <strong>October 28<\/strong>. This outpouring of activity has come on the heels of Finn reestablishing himself in the C-U arts after spending several years in <strong>Atlanta, Georgia<\/strong>, for higher education; involvement with <strong>Champaign Movie Makers, Pens to Lens, Parkland Theatre<\/strong>, the <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Movies :: Virtual Chameleon\" href=\"https:\/\/www.virtcham.com\/movies\"><strong>Virtual Chameleon<\/strong> Internet show <strong>HELPETHAN.COM<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, and classroom teaching has certainly lit the fire for this fellow and his friends to pursue their low budget, high concept ambitions.
