(Photo: courtesy Jake Aurelian)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog Art\/cu_rippermovie_vandyke.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"312\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Even though clowns have once again been striking coulrophobia in the hearts of us regular humans, thanks to the hit revival <strong>IT<\/strong> and <strong>Stephen King<\/strong>\u2019s famous shapeshifting metaphor-monster, we can still have some fun with them in the right context. Therefore, we\u2019d like to introduce you to a downstate <strong>Illinois<\/strong> \u201cit\u201d boy who is in it to win guffaws from his audience rather than shrieks and scares, even though he regularly brandishes a bit of a knowing sneer instead of a smile. <strong>Ripper the Clown<\/strong>, a staccato-speaking huckster serving as an alter ego for creator <strong>Jake Aurelian<\/strong> of <strong>Danville<\/strong>, is <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Ripper the Clown @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/rippertheclownshow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a highly unique presence when he makes appearances in person and otherwise quite busy outside the limelight.<\/a><\/span> An example of his offbeat output will be on display tonight, <strong>Saturday, April 7<\/strong>, at the <a title=\"Vintage Villains @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/vintagevillains\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Vintage Villains<\/strong> collector\u2019s shop and performance venue<\/span><\/a> in downtown Danville where he will present his current <em>magnum opus<\/em> and first of the feature-length stripe, <strong>THE STRIPPER RIPPER<\/strong>. Self-described as \u201ca spoof of classic horror films and television shows\u201d including <strong>HALLOWEEN<\/strong> and <strong>THE NIGHT STALKER<\/strong>, the final preview keeps much of its referential humor close to the vest, strangely enough:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FHGSqSpAr88\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Originally unveiled in December to a packed hometown crowd, <strong>STRIPPER<\/strong> seems of a kind with previous <a title=\"Ripper the Clown @ YouTube\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCFG4WVh8A56PLWRi4ByrKGg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">YouTube<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"> (er, ScrewYouTube) videos<\/span><\/a> that place the poker-faced rapscallion in comedic situations; nearly all his self-depreciating schemes involve Danville locations and faces more familiar to <strong>Vermilion County<\/strong> than our own. The movie features the faithful Ripper posse \u2013 <strong>Shawn Hosseini, Albert King, Chris Purviance, Sarah Woodard, Hema Rishi<\/strong>, and so on \u2013 with dozens more as well as cameos by <strong>Chicago<\/strong> indie producer <strong>John Borowski<\/strong>, a specialist in serial killer documentaries, and <strong>Philo Barnhart<\/strong>, an <strong>Oak Park<\/strong> resident whose career involved animation work with <strong>Walt Disney Pictures<\/strong> and <strong>Don Bluth Studios<\/strong>. Presumably, the jokes will fly and bodies fall with many of the trailer\u2019s colorful characters involved in both!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">According to <a title=\"Jake Aurelian @ Amazon\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Jake-Aurelian\/e\/B008J2SB5C\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">his autobiography on <strong>Amazon<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, Aurelian graduated from the <strong>University of Illinois<\/strong> in 2000 with a degree in <strong>Media Studies, <\/strong><strong>Communication &amp; Rhetoric<\/strong>. Apart from teaching and freelance writing, he has spent a good amount of effort spiraling Ripper and related efforts into a cottage industry of novels, children&#8217;s books, videos, and live events in Danville such as \u201c<strong>Pop Goes the Culture Variety Show<\/strong>\u201d and \u201c<strong>Brouhaha! Stand Up Comedy Show<\/strong>.\u201d You may have spotted him in <strong>Champaign-Urbana<\/strong> at the <a title=\"Dark History and Horror Con :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.darkhistoryandhorror.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Dark History<\/strong> \u201ctrue crime\u201d convention<\/span><\/a> and our own <a title=\"New Art Film Festival :: Official Site\" href=\"https:\/\/newartfilmfestival.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">New Art Film Festival<\/span><\/strong><\/a>. Where might Ripper venture next? What might Ripper pull out of that tight-knit cap of his? Feel free to quiz him about origins, plans, and interactions with zombies and extraterrestrials this evening if you dare! He might even sign a <strong>STRIPPER RIPPER<\/strong> DVD for you if asked kindly. Doors open at <strong>7 p.m.<\/strong>, the movie begins at <strong>8 p.m.<\/strong>, and suggested donation at the door is $5.
