Ready? <em>First question:<\/em> What is the title of the vintage <strong>University of Illinois<\/strong> student-made feature that will be given a second shot at domestic distribution by <strong>Vinegar Syndrome<\/strong> later this year? <a title=\"VinSyn nabs UI film fugitive SHOT :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=11718\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">We revealed the answer<\/span><\/a>, <strong>SHOT<\/strong>, in our post from last week. <em>Second question:<\/em> When did UIUC students publish the first issue of their film journal <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">MacGuffin<\/span><\/strong>? It made its campus debut the very same day as <strong>SHOT<\/strong> back in March 1973 as recounted in <a title=\"Calendar: March 23-29, 2018 :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=11651\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">our recent <strong>Confidential Almanac<\/strong> entry<\/span><\/a>. <em>Third and final question:<\/em> Who are the undergraduates <em>today<\/em> filling the shoes of those who once acted upon their own interests to examine the art of cinema while schooling in <strong>Urbana<\/strong>, and how do we discover their doings? Why, keep reading this passage and you will learn about three opportunities taking place in the next week at which students will showcase contemporary shorts created by their peers from near and far, far away!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The first event is scheduled for tonight, <strong>Wednesday, April 25<\/strong>, as the <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Feminist Film Festival :: Women's Resources Center, OIIR, UIUC\" href=\"https:\/\/oiir.illinois.edu\/womens-center\/wrc-events\/annual-feminist-film-festival\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UI <strong>Women\u2019s Resources Center<\/strong><\/a><\/span> stages their ninth <a title=\"UIUC 9th annual Feminist Film Festival @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/526081264432665\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Feminist Film Festival<\/span><\/strong><\/a> at a new venue, the auditorium of <strong>Lincoln Hall<\/strong>. Filling in for departed guiding light <strong>Rachel Storm<\/strong>, who now works for the city of Urbana, interim WRC assistant director <strong>Sylwia Dutka<\/strong> and her volunteers will continue the show\u2019s valuable outreach by presenting a set of works by current employees and enrolled students at UIUC that use unique voices and potent storytelling to tackle aspects of feminism and social justice in the current climate. A catered reception will begin at <strong>7 p.m.<\/strong>, providing audience members a chance to mingle with the evening\u2019s filmmakers before the program begins.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">On <strong>Saturday, April 28<\/strong>, the next collection of film shorts will be displayed in the auditorium of neighboring <strong>Gregory Hall<\/strong> as part of the fourth <a title=\"Illinifest Student Film Festival @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/IllinifestFilm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Illinifest Student Film Festival<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, organized by the classmates of the <strong>Media and Cinema Studies<\/strong> (MACS) <strong>464<\/strong> course taught by <strong>Dora Valkanova<\/strong>. They have curated more than 30 movie projects to share, split between those made by students from Midwest academia including Illinois (\u201cMidwest Student\u201d category) and others welcomed from across the globe (\u201cWorld Competition\u201d category). They will also facilitate two panels, one on sexual harassment in the media industry and another on emerging distribution platforms, populated by faculty and professionals with careers pertinent to the topics. <a title=\"Illinifest Student Film Festival :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/illinifest.illinois.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">You can become familiar with the films as well as a surprisingly seasoned roster of guests, including the judging panel, at their Web site.<\/span><\/a> Doors open at <strong>10:30 a.m.<\/strong> and activities will run all day long.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Finally, the long-running <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Illini Film &amp; Video @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/2200745719\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Illini Film &amp; Video<\/strong><\/a><\/span> club will partner with fellow RSO <a title=\"Photon Pictures @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photonpicturesuiuc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Photon Pictures<\/span><\/strong><\/a> to present the UI student body with a sampling of their best pieces. <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Golden Corn Film Festival @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Golden-Corn-Film-Festival-1983959051855394\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Their event collaboration<\/a><\/span>, the <strong>Golden Corn Film Festival<\/strong>, will put on an \u201cold <strong>Hollywood<\/strong>\u201d air at the Lincoln Hall auditorium on next <strong>Wednesday, May 2<\/strong>, with doors opening at <strong>6 p.m.<\/strong> and videos projecting from <strong>6:30 p.m.<\/strong> on. Graduate student <strong>Rachel Berry<\/strong> and the rest of the IFV and PP board members are not only planning a big show with 13 shorts produced between the clubs, but they\u2019re also cooking up goodies for a \u201cmovie-themed bake sale\u201d to help cover Golden Corn costs; go find them on the UI <strong>Main Quad<\/strong> tomorrow, <strong>Thursday, April 26<\/strong>, between <strong>9 a.m.<\/strong> and <strong>3 p.m.<\/strong> to show your support for their show.
