Between the two previews released in advance, one <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DarkSoulEntertainment1\/videos\/1966236913624100\/\">a <\/a><\/span><a title=\"UNDERGROUND SOUND Trailer 1 @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DarkSoulEntertainment1\/videos\/1966236913624100\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">rapid-fire introduction to the film\u2019s interviewees<\/span><\/a> and the other positing Big Questions about the worth of music in our lives and communities, it\u2019s clear that <strong>UNDERGROUND<\/strong> serves as a loving overview of Decatur\u2019s current music scene. Since those outside the Soy City won\u2019t necessarily be familiar with their movers, shakers, and beat makers, the production is a welcome addition to the slowly growing stable of local rock docs. Also be sure to <a title=\"Dark Soul Entertainment @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DarkSoulEntertainment1\/\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">follow Dark Soul on <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Facebook<\/span><\/strong><\/a> and watch for future news on their first long-form narrative, <strong>STORY OF THE YEAR<\/strong>, scheduled to be shot this summer according to recent postings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">While the <strong>UNDERGROUND<\/strong> crowd and the rest of our Midwest slumbered that night, a cult film with a pieced-together reputation was finally reconsidered on the whole thanks to the efforts of <strong>Ed Glaser<\/strong> from <a title=\"Neon Harbor Entertainment :: Official Site\" href=\"https:\/\/neonharbor.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Neon Harbor Entertainment<\/span><\/strong><\/a> in <strong>Champaign<\/strong>. Viewing groups in <strong>London, England<\/strong>, and <strong>Glasgow, Scotland<\/strong>, set up simultaneous \u201cStar Wars Day\u201d unveilings on their <strong>May 4<\/strong> to bask in the glow of a new 2K transfer for the 1982 Turkish pulp adventure <strong>D\u00dcNYAYI KURTARAN ADAM<\/strong>, or, <strong>THE MAN WHO SAVES THE WORLD<\/strong>. <a title=\"New HD Scan of Cult Film \u201cTurkish Star Wars\u201d to Premiere May 4 :: Neon Harbor Entertainment\" href=\"https:\/\/neonharbor.com\/new-hd-scan-of-cult-film-turkish-star-wars-to-premiere-may-4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Appearing in London to address the <strong>Remakesploitation Film Club<\/strong> at the <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Cinema Museum<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, Glaser certainly relayed his \u201choly grail\u201d discovery tale in which he met a retired projectionist in <strong>Turkey<\/strong> who had in his collection a 35mm print of the opus, known colloquially as <strong>TURKISH STAR WARS<\/strong> due in part to the producers\u2019 inclusion of permanently borrowed effects footage and soundtrack scores from <strong>Hollywood<\/strong> blockbusters of the era. Glaser purchased the print, believing it the only one still in existence, and had it digitized to share anew.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hyOCLzKszYY\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Even with the dubious prospects of <strong>D\u00dcNYAYI KURTARAN ADAM<\/strong> receiving distribution outside of Turkey in the 21st century because of those illicit elements, the move falls perfectly in line with Glaser\u2019s mission to promote the inherent joys of international genre cinema playing off American movie conventions to their own ends. Previous projects include <strong>DEJA VIEW<\/strong>, an ongoing Web series exploring the histories and merits of these knock-offs, <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Dracula in Istanbul<\/span><\/strong>, the first-ever English translation of an illegitimate \u201crewrite\u201d of <strong>Bram Stoker<\/strong>\u2019s original <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Dracula<\/span><\/strong> novel first published in 1928, and <strong>RAMPAGE<\/strong>, <a title=\"RAMPAGE (Korkusuz) Trailer - TURKISH RAMBO @ YouTube\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YDugy8JuhTg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">an English-dubbed <strong>U.S.<\/strong> release<\/span><\/a> of the so-called <strong>TURKISH RAMBO<\/strong>, a.k.a. <strong>KORKUSUZ<\/strong>, directed by the prolific <strong>Cetin \u0130nan\u00e7<\/strong> who also piloted <strong>TURKISH STAR WARS<\/strong> into the stratosphere. Sadly, this last one is now out of print.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Later that same day on our side of the globe, a young Windy City filmmaker pulled the curtains back on his sophomore micro-budget feature to the delight of his modest audience and as proof of undeniable talent behind the camera. <strong>The Nightingale<\/strong> in <strong>Chicago<\/strong> served as the venue on <strong>Friday, May 4<\/strong>, for writer\/director <strong>Nick Alonzo<\/strong> and his tiny crew to introduce their collaboration, <a title=\"THE ART OF SITTING QUIETLY AND DOING NOTHING @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TheArtofSittingQuietlyandDoingNothing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">THE ART OF SITTING QUIETLY AND DOING NOTHING<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, which follows twentysomething Carl, played by <strong>Alex Serrato<\/strong>, who decides to live in the woods as an escape from both city environs and the still-fresh hints of his broken relationship with Gloria, played by fellow moviemaker <strong>Alycya Maga\u00f1a<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Alex Serrato stars in THE ART OF SITTING QUIETLY AND DOING NOTHING. (Photo: Cluck Films via IMDb)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog Art\/cu_artsittingquietly_actor.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"312\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Reviews from news outlets like <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Cine-File Chicago<\/span><\/strong>, <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Daily Grindhouse<\/span><\/strong>, and <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Time Out Chicago<\/span><\/strong> have been complementary and position <strong>SITTING QUIETLY<\/strong> as a dramatic advancement over his first full-length effort, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"SHITCAGO @ Vimeo\" href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/189219902\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the pleasantly wry \u201cslacker in the city\u201d travelogue <strong>SHITCAGO<\/strong><\/a><\/span>. We ran a preview for the latter at the <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"NAFF 2015 | Year 6 :: New Art Film Festival\" href=\"https:\/\/newartfilmfestival.com\/naff-2015-year-6\/\">2015 <strong>New Art Film Festival<\/strong><\/a><\/span> because, although it wasn\u2019t a downstate <strong>Illinois<\/strong> production, it represented a deceptively simple yet tactile vision unlike anything our audience had seen before; the film itself would have been exactly the kind of surprise to tickle our fancy if it had appeared in our P.O. box as a screener during the <strong>MICRO-FILM<\/strong> era. Those looking for a true antithesis to anything labeled \u201csummer movie\u201d should go out of their way for <strong>SITTING QUIETLY<\/strong> (in all senses of the phrase) if it happens to be playing nearby, although we feel Alonzo\u2019s film voice deserves to travel beyond Chicago this time around.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Equally worthwhile Chicago voices can be amplified on screen with a little help from their Champaign-Urbana friends, evidenced in a recently finished <a title=\"SEEDS :: Official Site\" href=\"https:\/\/www.seedsseries.com\/\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">five-episode Web series called <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">SEEDS<\/span><\/strong><\/a>. First shown to the public at the <strong>Chicago Cultural Center<\/strong> on <strong>Wednesday, March 14<\/strong>, <strong>SEEDS<\/strong> is the creation of director\/producer <strong>C.J. Thomas<\/strong> and actress\/producer <strong>Deja Harrell<\/strong>, Chicagoland natives who strove to develop a lively, relatable, and sometimes pointed approach that is populated by characters that honestly reflect young African-American women like themselves. <strong>SEEDS<\/strong> stars <strong>Kyra Jones, Dionne Addai, Adia Alli<\/strong>, and Harrell as college-age friends who navigate contemporary Chicago with a close kinship that allows for easy and frank discussion among them whether at home or in a public or social setting. <a title=\"SEEDS :: Open Television\" href=\"http:\/\/www.weareo.tv\/originals\/seeds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Their adventures can be watched<\/span><\/a> on the Chicago-based platform <strong>OTV: Open Television<\/strong>, a haven for progressive self-made storytelling that helps to fill the media needs of underserved communities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/254765591?color=ffff0b&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/254765591\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">SEEDS \\\\ Official Traile<\/span>r<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/shatterglass\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Shatterglass Studios<\/span><\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Vimeo<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Between contacts from up north and relationships built here in east central Illinois, the duo put together a crew to film <strong>SEEDS<\/strong> in Chicago last summer and push through a post-production period in time for the March debut. This includes involvement from <a title=\"Shatterglass Films:: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.shatterglassfilms.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Shatterglass Films<\/span><\/strong><\/a> of Champaign, where both Harrell and Thomas \u2013 the latter a pseudonym for <strong>Illinois Public Media<\/strong> and <strong>Art Theater<\/strong> employee <strong>Caitlyn Johnson<\/strong> \u2013 interned while studying at the <strong>University of Illinois<\/strong>, so it is no surprise to see names in the credits roll that carry over from past Shatterglass projects. Most prominent is the versatile <strong>Iman Sharabash<\/strong> as an executive producer.
