(Photo: courtesy Drea Aarons)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog Art\/cu_indieart18_01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">There is not terribly much to say about our experience back on <strong>Saturday, July 14<\/strong>, when we tabled for the first time in several years during the <a title=\"Indie Art Convention &amp; Film Festival :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.indieartcon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">2018 Indie Art Convention &amp; Film Festival<\/span><\/strong><\/a> at the <strong>Savoy Recreational Center<\/strong> in <strong>Savoy<\/strong>. Organized by local pop culture promoter <strong>Brian Ward<\/strong> in collaboration with <strong>Willy Adkins<\/strong> of <a title=\"Breaking Fate Entertainment @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/BreakingFateEntertainment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Breaking Fate Entertainment<\/span><\/strong><\/a> in <strong>DeKalb<\/strong>, the show was one of several concepts the duo appeared to be testing in the <strong>Champaign-Urbana<\/strong> market to see if they could build a stable of events to be anchored by Ward\u2019s own homegrown hit, the <a title=\"Dark History &amp; Horror Convention :: Official Site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dhhcon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Dark History &amp; Horror Convention<\/span><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A dozen or so vendors signed on to participate in the venue\u2019s cozy activity room, allowing for a seating space to be partitioned in the back where a short film program would run all day, and patiently waited out the morning\u2019s blustery downpours for the hoped-for attendees to arrive and browse in the afternoon. Traffic never materialized, though, as we wiled away eight hours with little to do and very few folks to engage with other than ourselves. At the least, your humble editor had lovely table neighbors from the C-U in <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Phil Strang @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/PhilStrangartist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">painter <strong>Phil Strang<\/strong><\/a><\/span> at stage left and <a title=\"Drea Aarons @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/dreaaronsart\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">multimedia artist <strong>Drea Aarons<\/strong><\/span><\/a> across the aisle; <a title=\"DV Entertainment Pictures :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dventertainmentpictures.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">DV Entertainment Pictures<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"> of <strong>Indianapolis<\/strong><\/span><\/a> displayed the token movie eye candy on the floor with their low-budget science fiction serial <strong>SUBMERGE<\/strong>. Apart from those pluses, <em>hrumph<\/em>. The obvious analogy is of the band gig without an audience. If you must go on, rock hard and then move along.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"2018 Indie Art Convention &amp; Film Festival (Artwork: IAC\/Breaking Fate Entertainment)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog Art\/cu_indieart18_02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"190\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Without interpreting too much from spare details and presumptions, we honestly wonder if Ward did not have the gumption to push Indie Art adequately with dates for the much larger Dark History convention looming near. We also suspect that Adkins remained hands off given <a title=\"For Sale :: Breaking Fate Entertainment\" href=\"http:\/\/www.breakingfate.com\/forsale\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">his recent decision to offload numerous Breaking Fate properties<\/span><\/a>, including the <strong>Art in Equality<\/strong> event held in Savoy previously and the <strong>Prairie State Film Festival<\/strong> that has featured local productions, in order to somewhat simplify the company\u2019s workload. (Personal and health concerns are apparently guiding his decisions as well, which <strong>Ye Ed<\/strong> and Confidential agent <strong>Cara Day<\/strong> learned when he and a lady friend stopped by our table.) <a title=\"Indie Art Convention @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/IndieArtCon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">A post-show <strong>Facebook<\/strong> announcement on <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">July 17<\/span><\/strong><\/a> revealed that Indie Art would be turned over to Breaking Fate and transformed into the \u201cFilms With Feelings Festival\u201d that will presumably be held either in DeKalb or <strong>Gatlinburg, Tennessee<\/strong>, the entrepreneur\u2019s home away from home. <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">C-U Blogfidential<\/span><\/strong> appreciates their incentive in giving the Indie Art Convention a chance in our neck of the cornfields. It simply did not take root.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We wish Adkins and his cohorts the best in realigning their efforts and hope Ward finds continued success where his heart lies; <a title=\"Dark History &amp; Horror Convention @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DarkHistoryCon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">it was revealed on <strong>July 26<\/strong> via Facebook<\/span><\/a> that Dark History would move from the rec center back to its previous home, the <strong>Garden Hotel<\/strong> (formerly the Wyndham Garden) in Urbana, on <strong>November 16-18<\/strong>. Until all that transpires, we have a <a title=\"New Art Film Festival :: Official Site\" href=\"https:\/\/newartfilmfestival.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">New Art Film Festival<\/span><\/strong><\/a> to whip into shape for <strong>October 30<\/strong>. Don\u2019t leave us hanging at the <strong>Art Theater<\/strong> like you did in Savoy, peoples. Deal?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">~ Jason Pankoke<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>p.s.<\/em> Ward belatedly announced the awards for the Indie Art film festival program on <strong>August 1<\/strong>. \u201cBest Film\u201d went to <strong>THE BOO<\/strong> with first, second, and third runners-up certificates being earned by <strong>SUBMERGE: ECHO 51, MISSING PEACE<\/strong>, and <strong>MIMESIS<\/strong>, respectively. <a title=\"Films :: Indie Art Convention &amp; Film Festival\" href=\"http:\/\/www.indieartcon.com\/films\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">We didn\u2019t even know a written program of any sort existed until researching for this post<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>p.s.2<\/em> It goes without saying that we had plenty of opportunity to snap pictures while on the scene.
