Perrone Photography\/courtesy P2L-CUFS)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog Art\/cu_P2L_2018_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"349\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Today, we segue from one <strong>Virginia Theatre<\/strong> <a title=\"Savor 2001 in 70mm all week long :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=11994\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">special presentation of intergalactic proportions<\/span><\/a> to another recent Virginia showcase highlighting the smallest stars on our galaxy. Based on the fervent participation by numerous <strong>Champaign-Urbana<\/strong> families and creatives, the <strong>Pens to Lens Screenwriting Competition + Gala<\/strong> event that occurs every August is simply the best \u2026 thing \u2026 <em>ever<\/em> for local children to participate in and all other children to witness; the ensuing deluge of testimonials, cell phone snaps, and press that appears like clockwork during this stretch of the calendar year only reinforces the growing affection for it. A program of the<strong> Champaign-Urbana Film Society<\/strong>, <strong>Champaign Movie Makers<\/strong>, and <strong>Champaign-Urbana Design Organization<\/strong> (CUDO), Pens to Lens is a teaching tool for area children to learn how to write their stories in script format so they can potentially be adapted into other media; the ultimate reword for good work is when a percentage of those entries are turned into actual film shorts by our filmmaker citizens who donate time and effort to show how well their words and ideas can translate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_KzY4s87RcQ\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Nineteen original pieces made their debut at the sixth annual P2L show on <strong>Saturday, August 11<\/strong>, with <strong>2 p.m.<\/strong> and <strong>6 p.m.<\/strong> sets divvying up the all-ages and \u201cPG\/PG-31\u201d level material, while additional recognition was awarded to unmade quality scrips and student-produced shorts. <strong>Edison Middle School<\/strong>\u2019s assistant principal, <strong>Mallory Morris<\/strong>, hosted the early block while <strong>Charlie Hester<\/strong>, a <strong>Danville<\/strong>-based singer and comedienne, emceed the nightcap. Given the timing of their celebration in downtown Champaign with the beginning of school, <a title=\"Submitting screenplays :: Pens to Lens\" href=\"https:\/\/penstolens.com\/participation\/how-to-enter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">the group is already accepting screenplays<\/span><\/a> for consideration in 2019.
