Why? For starters, see the <strong>Almanac<\/strong> below.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>CONFIDENTIAL ALMANAC | Dates in Film Culture History<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>10 Years Ago<\/strong> \u2026 <em>April 15-20, 2010:<\/em> Inspired by the warm reception given to his <strong>Boneyard Arts Festival<\/strong> \u201cmovie show\u201d at Urbana\u2019s <strong>Caffe Paradiso<\/strong> the previous spring, <strong>Jason Pankoke<\/strong> of <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">C-U Confidential<\/span><\/strong> takes up a cross-town opportunity to build a more substantial showcase for independent cinema. He and <strong>Art Theater<\/strong> owner <strong>Sanford Hess<\/strong> collaborate to launch the first <a title=\"New Art Film Festival @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/newartfilmfestival\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">New Art Film Festival<\/span><\/strong><\/a> to offer <strong>Champaign-Urbana<\/strong> a unique program, drawing from both locally-made content and the work of producers from <strong>Chicago<\/strong> and several Midwest states. A free \u201cnon-taxing\u201d reel, mixing trailers and film shorts in a similar vein to the Paradiso event, kicks off the NAFF on <strong>Thursday, April 15<\/strong>, after which the full potential of its concept is demonstrated to audiences. Blocks include various pieces from <strong>University of Illinois<\/strong> alumni and students, a selection of adventures from <strong>Dark Maze Studios<\/strong> of Champaign, the C-U debut of the documentary <strong>HOOPESTON<\/strong>, and features made by Pankoke\u2019s contacts through the defunct <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">MICRO-FILM<\/span><\/strong> journal such as <strong>EXISTO, RETURN IN RED<\/strong>, and <strong>DEADWOOD PARK<\/strong>. Screenings are paced across six days, the first three concurrent with Boneyard Arts and a closing \u201cbest of\u201d presentation taking place on <strong>Tuesday, April 20<\/strong>, the night before <strong>Roger Ebert\u2019s Film Festival<\/strong> commences.
