There is usually a sense of purpose to everything that appears here for the sake of the movies and media creatives of <strong>Champaign, Urbana<\/strong>, and the cities beyond. If this looks like a colorful lark on its surface, so be it, but know that my heart would collapse a bit if I didn\u2019t do anything outside the <strong>MFHQ<\/strong> box to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the <a title=\"New Art Film Festival @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/newartfilmfestival\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">New Art Film Festival<\/span><\/strong><\/a>. Please join me in having some fun as we consider how it\u2019s gone so far.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog Art\/cu_meme2020_naff10thanniv_LG.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"New Art Film Festival 10th anniversary badge (Design: Jason Pankoke)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog Art\/cu_meme2020_naff10thanniv.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">At the moment, I feel content the NAFF has catered to our community as best as possible during nine shows across its first decade. <a title=\"NAFF 2010 schedule in full :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=1852\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">The original launched on <strong>Thursday, April 15, 2010<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, during the <a title=\"Boneyard Arts Festival @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/boneyardarts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Boneyard Arts Festival<\/span><\/strong><\/a> and lasted an additional five days, leading up to the opening night of <a title=\"Roger Ebert\u2019s Film Festival :: Home Page\" href=\"https:\/\/ebertfest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Roger Ebert\u2019s Film Festival<\/span><\/strong><\/a>. Screenings that curious filmgoers might have attended 10 years ago at the <strong>Art Theater<\/strong> in Champaign included the area premiere of documentary <strong>HOOPESTON<\/strong>, a compilation of short subjects produced by <strong>University of Illinois<\/strong> students in the <strong>Illini Film &amp; Video<\/strong> club, a sneak preview of an under-the-radar <strong>Dreamscape Cinema<\/strong> thriller called <strong>DISPOSABLE<\/strong>, and a late show highlighting the moody science-fiction feature <strong>RETURN IN RED<\/strong> from <strong>Indiana<\/strong>. The ambitious nature of our peculiar marathon taught yours truly and incoming Art owner <strong>Sanford Hess<\/strong> a handful of serious lessons about what to do, not do, and try the next time. We found a more comfortable formula to fit the NAFF and our audience a year later.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog Art\/cu_meme2020_cublog14thanniv_LG.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"C-U Blogfidential 14th anniversary badge (Design: Jason Pankoke)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog Art\/cu_meme2020_cublog14thanniv.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Fast forwarding to the present, I will aim to give the NAFF faithful and onlookers late to the party a few nuggets they can take to heart in appreciating what our local film culture can achieve. I\u2019m sharing them on <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">CUBlog<\/span><\/strong> because <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"New Art Film Festival :: Official Site\" href=\"https:\/\/newartfilmfestival.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the official NAFF webpage will go dark soon<\/a><\/span> due to a recent agreement. Maybe I\u2019ll compile up to a sextet of articles in reference to the six days spanned by the first NAFF, maybe I\u2019ll keep it compact since I have several other pieces in the queue. We\u2019ll see. I could not resist designing a badge for the NAFF. It pictures a loaded Art marquee from a few seasons ago and is based on a prior badge made in February to highlight the 14th birthday of <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">CUBlog<\/span><\/strong>. I\u2019ve revised and included the latter here. A surprise badge fills out the triptych and notes the release of <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">MICRO-FILM<\/span> 2<\/strong> in April 2000 at the former Overlooked Film Festival; it features the distinctive <strong>St. Louis<\/strong> actor <strong>D.J. Vivona<\/strong> in <a title=\"Wicked Pixel Cinema :: Home Page\" href=\"https:\/\/wickedpixel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">his role as \u201cThe Presence\u201d from the underground head trip <strong>ICE FROM THE SUN<\/strong><\/span><\/a>. All graphics are released to <strong>Facebook<\/strong> as of this writing, so wear them loud and proud in the virtual world if you would be so kind!
