I know the detail you would <em>like<\/em> me to address \u2013 \u201cWill the NAFF come back?\u201d \u2013 but I think answering that question is best left to the near future when I have a clearer head space about it. I\u2019d rather shift gears and devote this coda of my NAFF article run to all the other promoters in downstate <strong>Illinois <\/strong>who are persisting or adjusting so they can bring independent cinema to our communities in the coming weeks and months, even with coronavirus on our minds and limited means at hand.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Most immediate in the queue is <strong>Illinifest<\/strong>, the student film festival organized by the classmates taking <strong>MACS 464<\/strong> through the <strong>College of Media<\/strong> at the <strong>University of Illinois<\/strong>. Despite the fact campus is closed down, instructor <strong>Jonathan Knipp<\/strong> and his long-distance charges have elected to put on a show regardless. The program of shorts, \u201chome movies,\u201d and <strong>TikTok<\/strong> videos will livestream on <strong>Saturday, May 2, 5 p.m. CST<\/strong>, <a title=\"Illinifest @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/IllinifestFilm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">through the event\u2019s <strong>Facebook<\/strong> page<\/span><\/a>. Entries will be accepted starting <strong>Friday, May 1<\/strong>, and ending after <strong>Sunday, May 31<\/strong>. <a title=\"CIFC Short Film Contest event :: Central Illinois Film Commission @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/230971981505166\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Make sure to visit this Event page for all the information.<\/span><\/a> Since one of the requirements states that entrants need to post their entries to the CIFC Facebook page, onlookers can enjoy the work as it is turned in. The contest is open to filmmakers living in Illinois and winners will receive prizes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I\u2019ve just seen a Facebook reminder about the regular submission deadline for <strong>Krampusnacht Freeky Film Festival<\/strong>, which passed on <strong>Monday, April 27<\/strong>. This prompt suggests that organizer <strong>Thomas Nicol<\/strong> is intending to see the event through in its original December 2020 window if executive orders and social distancing practices allow. <a title=\"C-U cinema hits a slippery slope :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=13294\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">With the KNFFF host venue gone<\/span><\/a>, one wonders if virtual space is the place for the naughty and creepy this round. <a title=\"Krampusnacht Freeky Film Festival :: FilmFreeway\" href=\"https:\/\/filmfreeway.com\/KrampusnachtFreekyFilmFestival\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Click here to learn more at <strong>FilmFreeway<\/strong><\/span><\/a> as three deadlines remain.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Since I caught these developments over the past few days, I thought it best to check on other events as well. <strong>Champaign-Urbana Film Society<\/strong> is still moving forward with a truncated <strong>Pens to Lens<\/strong> program for the second half of 2020 that focuses solely on student-made work. <a title=\"Pens to Lens @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/PensToLens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">A response from them on <strong>Sunday, April 12<\/strong>, to a Facebook query<\/span><\/a> states that \u201c[w]e will certainly find a way to put out a special event, working with whatever safety considerations are prudent when we get there!\u201d <a title=\"Student Filmmaking Competition 2020 :: Pens to Lens\" href=\"https:\/\/penstolens.com\/student-filmmaking-competition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Rules for submissions are on the P2L website<\/span><\/a> and the entry deadline remains <strong>Tuesday, June 30<\/strong>, with a show date to be announced.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Back in Springfield and <a title=\"Route 66 International Film Festival @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TheRoute66InternationalFilmFestival\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">according to Facebook<\/span><\/a>, the judges at <strong>Route 66 International Film Festival<\/strong> have continued to watch entries and maintain a <strong>November 6-7<\/strong> date at a new location, the <strong>State House Inn<\/strong>. Down in <strong>Decatur<\/strong>, <strong>Dead in Decatur<\/strong> has teamed up with <strong>Heroic Age Studios<\/strong> in <strong>Mt. Zion<\/strong> to sponsor <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Dead in Decatur presents: The Art of Fear event :: Dead in Decatur @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/1295797584142925\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the latter\u2019s genre showcase, \u201c<strong>The Art of Fear<\/strong>,\u201d<\/a><\/span> at the <strong>Heroic Age Art Center<\/strong> on <strong>October 16<\/strong>. I take it the workshop-and-mingle event will now incorporate the previous DiD festival, based on the lingo and logo I\u2019m finding on sites including FilmFreeway. <a title=\"Dead in Decatur presents: The Art of Fear :: FilmFreeway\" href=\"https:\/\/filmfreeway.com\/DeadinDecatur\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Regular deadline to enter DiD is also <strong>June 30<\/strong>.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">That\u2019s what I know for the moment. <a title=\"C-U Confidential @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/cuconfidential\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Always be sure to reference <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">C-U Confidential<\/span><\/strong> on Facebook<\/span><\/a> for timely announcements and updates I may share there but not include in <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">CUBlog<\/span><\/strong> coverage. I\u2019m also going to urge you to support these events however you can and whenever they take place, for their variety and multiplicity is what makes the world of a \u201cfilm scene\u201d go \u2018round. It means plenty to their organizers and hopefully will be satisfying to you. In the many years that I have been promoting the New Art Film Festival, it is no accident that I talk about it in terms of being a \u201cwe\u201d and \u201cour\u201d festival and not a \u201cthee\u201d or \u201cmy\u201d festival.
