Articles run by the Decatur <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Herald &amp; Review<\/span><\/strong> last week report on how the city is crisis managing a sign of architectural aging and cultural stagnation. <a title=\"\u2018Watch now: Damage to Lincoln Square Theatre causes city to declare it unsafe\u2019 by Tony Reid :: The Herald &amp; Review\" href=\"https:\/\/herald-review.com\/news\/local\/lincoln-square-theatre-declared-unsafe-by-city-inspector\/article_8513ce5a-2219-5584-a2b1-5fd9193b9778.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">The video posted in this piece shows evidence of fallen bricks littering an alleyway<\/span><\/a> behind the <strong>Lincoln Square Theatre<\/strong>, implication being the damage is new and could hurt passersby, along with notices giving the property owners 30 days to repair the exterior or face the threat of demolition. <strong>Decatur<\/strong> mayor <strong>Julie Moore Wolfe<\/strong> and other city officials <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u2018Who owns the Lincoln Square Theatre? City officials seek responsible party; supporters rally to save structure\u2019 by Garrett Karsten :: The Herald &amp; Review\" href=\"https:\/\/herald-review.com\/news\/local\/who-owns-the-lincoln-square-theatre-city-officials-seek-responsible-party-supporters-rally-to-save\/article_301fe393-d3fb-5bbe-b7cd-82253dc31ae0.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claim in a follow-up piece they don\u2019t want to tear it down and are struggling to find anyone representing its last owner<\/a><\/span>, a non-profit formed in the 1990s and dissolved early in 2019 after the most recent shuttering of its doors. This new hiccup follows an ongoing series of setbacks and stalled promise that has faced various boards and management teams doing their best to revive the Lincoln at <strong>141 N. Main Street<\/strong> in downtown Decatur, which ceased to be a first-run movie house in December 1980. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">H&amp;R<\/span> coverage of the Lincoln often focuses on talk of budget shortfalls, renovation needs, and an inability to fundraise and spend effectively, the repetition broken now and again by successful events such as <a title=\"Museum, theater note film history :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=10354\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">a \u201c100th Birthday Bash\u201d staged in October 2016<\/span><\/a>. It may be long overdue for the Decatur community to decide whether they can get behind one more push to restore the Lincoln as a multi-use venue and entertainment destination or if building something fresh from the ground up is the wise choice.
