I also realize the media conglomerates have to satisfy the tastes of a general audience in order to make money. So, if one wishes to dive deeper, one has to look past the likes of <strong>Netflix, Disney Plus, Vudu, Peacock, Apple TV, Hulu, YouTube Movies<\/strong>, and <strong>CBS All Access<\/strong> (<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"ViacomCBS Confirms Paramount+ As New Streaming Name For CBS All Access\u2019 by Dade Hayes, Peter White :: Deadline\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2020\/09\/viacomcbs-confirms-paramount-plus-as-new-streaming-name-for-cbs-all-access-1234576956\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">about to become <strong>Paramount Plus<\/strong><\/a><\/span>). <strong>Criterion Collection<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"The Criterion Channel :: Home Page\" href=\"https:\/\/www.criterionchannel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">launched its own platform<\/a><\/span> to present its library of curated world cinema, while <strong>Vimeo on Demand<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Vimeo on Demand :: Vimeo\" href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/ondemand\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">provides an outlet for independent producers<\/a><\/span> to rent their wares that is not swarmed by <strong>Hollywood<\/strong> as is <strong>Amazon Prime<\/strong>. Other variants exist if one searches a bit and most of them require the viewer to make a purchase. That is expected and all good <em>if<\/em> the viewer has disposable income.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I emphasize greatly with my fellow citizens whose finances continue to wither because of insufficient employment in the pandemic era. Many of us simply don\u2019t have the cash flow to afford first-run movies and many other amusements. (Conversely, swarms of parents have now dropped $20 to $30 in premium fees on cue for <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u2018\u2018Mulan\u2019: Making Sense Of The Box Office And VOD Grosses\u2019 by Scott Mendelson :: Forbes\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/scottmendelson\/2020\/09\/20\/mulan-making-sense-of-its-box-office-and-pvod-grosses\/#703641033d13\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the privilege of streaming <strong>TROLLS WORLD TOUR<\/strong> and <strong>MULAN<\/strong><\/a><\/span> with their children.) So, we\u2019ll always have cable television and its insane price tiers, free <strong>YouTube<\/strong> interrupted by awkward breaks, free <strong>Vimeo<\/strong> filled with shorts and experiments, free <strong>Daily Motion<\/strong> for flotsam and jetsam to wade through, and <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Kanopy :: Home Page\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kanopy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">free-with-membership access to collections like <strong>Kanopy<\/strong><\/a><\/span> through our public libraries. The overwhelming effect can be <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u201857 Channels (and Nothin\u2019 On)\u2019 music video :: Bruce Springsteen @ YouTube\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/YAlDbP4tdqc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the equivalent of surfing 57,000 streams (and nothin\u2019 on)<\/a><\/span> and this doesn\u2019t even account for movies ripped to one\u2019s devices or a shelving unit stocked with home videos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Recently I discovered a newer service that is user-friendly, free with ad breaks, and just weird enough to possibly be worth the adventure. <strong>Tubi<\/strong>, launched in 2016 and <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u2018Fox Corp. to Acquire Tubi Free-Streaming Service for $440 Million, Sells Roku Stake\u2019 by Todd Spangler :: Variety\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2020\/digital\/news\/fox-corp-tubi-acquires-440-million-sells-roku-1203537320\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">purchased by <strong>Fox Corporation<\/strong> earlier this year<\/a><\/span>, is available via numerous platforms as well as the internet and is comparable in feel to brands like <strong>Crackle<\/strong> and <strong>PlutoTV<\/strong>. <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Tubi :: Home Page\" href=\"https:\/\/tubitv.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">After several swims in the pool<\/a><\/span>, I can best describe Tubi as if one ambled into a mom-and-pop store where direct-to-video features, cult movies, moldy oldies, and documentaries outnumbered studio releases by a wide margin. The algorithms bring up titles you have never heard of in every search, but a few surprising gems can be located with a little effort and guess work; it will be worth the extra time to create an account and keep track of goodies that way. Tubi has no organization to speak of that guides you through their offerings by genre but they do hotlink the names of directors and actors, which allows a one-click search method of sorts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Tubi interface (Artwork: courtesy Tubi)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/Images\/CUBlog Art\/cu_tubi_screen.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"296\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Being the humble editor of <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">C-U Blogfidential<\/span><\/strong>, I had to entertain a hunch or two and my findings can be found below. The first list is of independent films related to downstate <strong>Illinois<\/strong> and the second is of features that have played <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Roger Ebert\u2019s Film Festival :: Official Site\" href=\"https:\/\/ebertfest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Roger Ebert\u2019s Film Festival<\/strong><\/a><\/span>. Click on titles to go to the landing pages and play without delay! Video streaming quality is fine with good Wi-Fi, advertising insertions are spaced agreeably, audio options are basic, subtitles are hardcoded, and a suggestion box may partly cover the screen during end credits but you can collapse it and allow your movie to finish out. All these observations stem from browsing Tubi via <strong>Mozilla Firefox<\/strong> on both a PC laptop and <strong>Apple iMac<\/strong>. The service does <em>not<\/em> put all its licenses on all platforms; <strong>Ma JaPan<\/strong> and I watched <strong>Aardman Animations<\/strong>\u2019 <strong>EARLY MAN<\/strong> on Tubi using her <strong>Roku<\/strong>-loaded flat screen television, but I could not find it on the computer side.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">All the plot crunches I\u2019ve included here are carried over from Tubi and presumably were given to them by the films\u2019 respective distributors. They have been mildly edited. Licenses also don\u2019t last forever, especially with studio titles; in the few weeks since I began compiling this article, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"DE-LOVELY :: Tubi\" href=\"https:\/\/tubitv.com\/movies\/458233\/de_lovely\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tubi stopped offering<\/a><\/span> the musical biography of <strong>Cole Porter<\/strong>, <strong>DE-LOVELY<\/strong>, which appeared at \u201c<strong>Ebertfest<\/strong>\u201d in 2017. If you happen to take up the challenge and find any more titles that could be added to our lists, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Write to C-U Blogfidential!\" href=\"mailto:cuconfidential@gmail.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">let us know<\/a><\/span>!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">~ Jason Pankoke<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>p.s.<\/em> I know it says \u201cTubiTV\u201d in the headline. That is what I\u2019ve called it in my head since I first found it because of the website\u2019s URL, tubitv.com. It is a sing-songy handle that is easy to remember.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>p.s.2<\/em> Of all the movies to appear large in the Tubi \u201ctitle treatment\u201d graphic I found in their promotional assets and used here, it <em>had<\/em> to be the first <strong>MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE<\/strong> with <strong>Tom Cruise<\/strong>. For some reason, <a title=\"Filming &amp; Locations :: MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE @ IMDb\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0117060\/locations?ref_=tt_ql_dt_5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Internet Movie Database<\/strong> lists <strong>Champaign<\/strong> as a shooting location<\/span><\/a>. Does <em>anyone<\/em> know why? It\u2019s a mystery more baffling than, you know, a nationally televised jump on the couch.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>p.s.3<\/em> <strong>M:I<\/strong> is not currently available on Tubi.
