A line of customers waited patiently to make their <strong>Halloween<\/strong> and keepsake purchases, while founder <strong>Andy Dallas<\/strong> amused them with card tricks as he has done plenty of times throughout his years selling costumes, party supplies, novelties, and tools of a magician\u2019s trade. The ultimate sleight of hand in his repertoire \u2013 running a successful local business and keeping it in the family for nearly five decades \u2013 will be retired at the end of 2020, however. If you would like to soak up one last round of rainbow-colored theatricality and rubbery gruesomeness that covers nearly every square inch of the shop, plan to visit <strong>101 E. University Avenue<\/strong> in midtown <strong>Champaign<\/strong> between <strong>2:30<\/strong> and <strong>5:30 p.m.<\/strong> either today, <strong>Friday, October 30<\/strong>, or <strong>Saturday, October 31<\/strong>. It is another dispiriting loss of a physical entertainment space in our community, forced in part by the coronavirus pandemic as with so many other closures, and we have no way to predict what will survive the corresponding economic downturn.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Accentuating the obvious, I followed a hunch while compiling this week\u2019s <strong>Calendar<\/strong> and confirmed the <strong>Lincoln Family Theater &amp; Community Center<\/strong> of nearby <strong>Lincoln<\/strong> had ceased operations at some point between the spring outbreak of <strong>COVID-19<\/strong> infections and the present day. In fact, the facility has been foreclosed upon and put up for sale as of last week for $1.2 million, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u2018Hope for something good to happen\u2019 by Dan Tackett :: The Lincoln Courier\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lincolncourier.com\/opinion\/20201023\/hope-for-something-good-to-happen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">explained as a bargain of sorts by an editorial<\/a><\/span> published in the <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Lincoln Courier<\/span><\/strong> newspaper.
