I haven\u2019t had much drive to make an honest Confidential effort in several weeks, but I\u2019ve regained some focus as of late so I can hopefully ride it into the summer and post a fair amount of fresh reading for you. Old and evergreen topics will also become new again, such as the one I have for you today.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Last week on <strong>Wednesday, April 21<\/strong>, we passed the 20th anniversary of \u201c<strong>MICRO-FILM Verit\u00e9<\/strong>,\u201d the very first movie presentation that I organized in <strong>Champaign-Urbana<\/strong>, so the incentive was all mine to <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u2018Shows\u2019 page details past NAFFs :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=13391\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">follow through on a promise from a year ago and complete our \u201c<strong>Picture Shows du C-U<\/strong>\u201d page<\/a><\/span>. Half the events you will see listed upon scrolling or jumping past the <strong>New Art Film Festival<\/strong> took place in the earliest days of <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">C-U Blogfidential<\/span><\/strong> while the others occurred even earlier when <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">MICRO-FILM<\/span><\/strong> was front and center. <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Picture Shows du C-U :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?page_id=13372\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">This is now a complete record of all the showcases we had a direct hand in producing, branding, and promoting.<\/a><\/span> While in number it pales compared to the volumes of acts and special events brought to our fair Twin Cities over the years by many a booking agent and self-made impresario, we\u2019re proud of how we managed to share our niche with the community even if it had to be tried again and again to make it stick. Will the streak be extended? <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Feeling a little bit MICRO, are we? :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=13009\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">I don\u2019t think we\u2019ve had a clear answer to that question for some time<\/a><\/span> but, as they say, wonders never cease.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Thoughts are percolating about doing the same sort of information upgrade to \u201c<strong>Periodicals du C-U<\/strong>\u201d in June since that month is the 20th anniversary of <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">MF<\/span> issue 4<\/strong> and I never got around to adding a detailed account of <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">MF<\/span><\/strong> on <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">CUBlog<\/span><\/strong>. (Yes, I knew going in that \u201c<strong>Verit\u00e9<\/strong>\u201d would be hosted by <strong>The Highdive<\/strong>.) Look closely at the chapel\u2019s distinctive announcement board behind Lucas, and you might discover a vintage <strong>Freaky Film Festival<\/strong> flier or two.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>p.s.2<\/em> Below is a display advertisement that I put together to jointly plug \u201c<strong>Verit\u00e9<\/strong>\u201d and \u201c<strong>Zineophilia<\/strong>,\u201d the latter event devised by comics artists <strong>Dann Tincher<\/strong> and <strong>Damian Duffy<\/strong> in collaboration with local arts <em>grand dame<\/em> <strong>Jenny Southlynn<\/strong>; I\u2019m sure it hasn\u2019t been seen since the <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Daily Illini<\/span><\/strong> ran it two decades ago.
