We at C-U Blogfidential<\/strong> have been longing to get our hands on this sick and twisted puppy for some time, so there’s no <\/em>time like the present to discuss HOME MOVIE<\/strong><\/a>. No, this isn’t the Chris Smith<\/strong> documentary from a few years ago or the animated series rescued by the Cartoon Network<\/strong>, but a taut exercise in incidental v\u00e9rit\u00e9 <\/em>a la THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT<\/strong> and DIARY OF THE DEAD<\/strong> finally released to the retail market yesterday, Tuesday, December 8<\/strong>, courtesy of IFC Films<\/strong> (which had previously issued it to VOD and Blockbuster<\/strong>-only DVD) and Chicago<\/strong>‘s MPI Media Group<\/strong>. Starring Adrian Padsar<\/strong> and Cady McClain<\/strong>, the Moderncin\u00e9<\/a> <\/strong>production depicts through “found footage” the downward spiral suffered by an upstate New York<\/strong> family, the Poes, when their twin children (Amber Joy Williams<\/strong> and Austin Williams<\/strong>) develop a deadly mean streak.<\/p>\n

This is one of the rare times on CUBlog <\/strong>when we’ll feature a movie not produced in MICRO-FILM Country<\/strong> since it was written and directed by our friend (and your <\/em>future fellow alumnus, University of Illinois<\/strong> students) Christopher Denham<\/strong>, who played the lead in Moderncin\u00e9’s first feature, HEADSPACE<\/strong>. As a theater undergraduate at UIUC, he continuously wrote and produced original plays such as In Film<\/em> <\/strong>and Rapist James<\/em><\/strong> while collaborating in the wryly-named Dependent Films<\/strong> with Peter James Zielinski<\/strong><\/a>. Quickly moving on from Champaign-Urbana<\/strong> to Chicago (via the Steppenwolf Theatre Company<\/strong>) and then New York City<\/strong>, Denham has since hit the stage regularly while landing roles in films by Martin Scorsese<\/strong> (SHUTTER ISLAND<\/strong>), Mike Nichols<\/strong> (CHARLIE WILSON’S WAR<\/strong>), and “mumblecore” champion (and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale<\/strong> product) Joe Swanberg<\/strong> (ALEXANDER THE LAST<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n
