News broke on Deadline<\/span><\/strong> this past Wednesday, July 7<\/strong>, that Sony Pictures Television<\/strong> is developing an animated show<\/a><\/span> based on Faust<\/span><\/strong>, the adult horror-superhero comic from the Eighties created by Tim Vigil<\/strong> and David Quinn<\/strong>. The project\u2019s screenwriter is Matteo Pizzolo<\/strong>, a veteran producer of punk and alternative content<\/a><\/span> who started out with the anarchistic New York<\/strong> indie THREAT<\/strong><\/a><\/span> that we spotlighted in MF<\/span> 3<\/strong>, while a prior Faust<\/span> adaptation, the live-action feature FAUST: LOVE OF THE DAMNED<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, figured in a comics-to-screen article we published in MF<\/span> 4<\/strong>. And then, we rewind to Friday, June 25<\/strong>, when the analog lovers at Lunchmeat VHS<\/span><\/strong> announced via Facebook<\/strong><\/a><\/span> they were offering a short run of collector\u2019s items to celebrate the 35th anniversary of HEAVY METAL PARKING LOT<\/strong>, the seminal underground documentary short<\/a><\/span> by Jeff Krulik<\/strong> and John Heyn<\/strong> that we covered in MF<\/span> 6<\/strong>; while t-shirts remain<\/a><\/span>, the snappy hand-decorated cassettes are already sold out. Not<\/em> sold out are the mass-produced DVDs and Blu-ray discs sitting in the storehouses of media merchants everywhere and, at times, it pays to look at their listings a bit carefully. I received my first Oldies.com<\/strong><\/a><\/span> mail-order catalog the other day and, despite the company\u2019s handle, there is a good amount of contemporary non-Hollywood<\/strong> material in their inventory. It includes former CUBlog<\/span><\/strong> contributor<\/a><\/span> Tyler Tharpe<\/strong>\u2019s second film, RETURN IN RED<\/strong>, which sports a blink-and-you\u2019ll-miss-me cameo and appears in MF<\/span> 6<\/strong> and 7<\/strong>. While you\u2019re spending freely, dearest revitalized consumers, you should consider making a run on the MF<\/span><\/strong> run<\/a><\/span> while I still have some.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n CONFIDENTIAL ALMANAC | Dates in Film Culture History<\/strong><\/p>\n 30 Years Ago<\/strong> \u2026 July 1-15, 1991:<\/em> Location shooting for the big-screen biography of legendary baseball player George \u201cBabe\u201d Ruth<\/strong>, aptly titled THE BABE<\/strong>, takes place at Danville Stadium<\/strong> on the south end of Danville, IL<\/strong>. Led by director Arthur Hiller<\/strong>, the production crew redresses the home of the Danville Dans<\/strong> club to alternately resemble Fenway Park<\/strong> of Boston<\/strong> and the defunct Forbes Field<\/strong> of Pittsburgh<\/strong> for scenes in the film; some shots are eventually augmented with early CGI effects to extend the upper decks and fill the stands not populated with flesh-and-blood extras recruited from the immediate area.
