August titles from VinSyn were announced earlier this week and two of the five sport contributions from people we know!<\/p>\n TERMINAL ISLAND<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, the 1973 survivalist action film directed by genre feminist Stephanie Rothman<\/strong>, will be released on UHD and Blu-ray with a featurette in which Heidi Honeycutt<\/strong> and Dr. Alicia Kozma<\/strong> discuss the resurgent interest in her work; Kozma has taught at Washington College<\/strong><\/a><\/span> in Maryland<\/strong> for the last few years following a residence in Champaign-Urbana<\/strong>, where she earned a Ph.D. in communication and media studies from the University of Illinois<\/strong> and programmed shows at the Art Theater<\/strong> such as a TERMINAL ISLAND retrospect<\/strong> <\/a><\/span>in 2017. GIRLS SCHOOL SCREAMERS<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, a 1986 Troma Films <\/strong>opus directed by John P. Finegan<\/strong>, will debut on Blu-ray alongside video interviews with and a commentary track by William Pace<\/strong> and Thomas Rondinella<\/strong>, crew members on SCREAMERS<\/strong> back then as well as award-winning filmmakers and fellow professors<\/a><\/span> at Seton Hall University<\/strong><\/a><\/span> in New Jersey<\/strong> today. Pace is a native of Havana<\/strong> in west-central Illinois<\/strong> where the duo shot on location for their first solo feature, CHARMING BILLY<\/strong>, which was originally put out by Phaedra Cinema<\/strong> and Fox Lorber Home Video<\/strong> in 2000-2001 before appearing as our cover story in MICRO-FILM 5<\/strong><\/a><\/span>. VinSyn previously welcomed to the club Mitch Brown<\/strong> and Roger Ebert\u2019s Film Festival<\/strong> producer Nate Kohn<\/strong>, who provided onscreen anecdotes about SHOT<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, their UIUC cop movie satire made primarily by students in 1972, for that film\u2019s 2018 reissue<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n We\u2019ll also award a \u201cgood egg\u201d honorable mention to the company\u2019s \u201cHome Grown Horrors, Volume 1<\/strong>\u201d<\/a><\/span> release from April that packages together a few examples of Eighties backyard cinema: BEYOND DREAM\u2019S DOOR<\/strong> made in Ohio<\/strong>, WINTERBEAST<\/strong> made in Massachusetts<\/strong>, and FATAL EXAM<\/strong> made in Missouri<\/strong>. Other than the great concept and creative selections, I\u2019m happy to see the highly imperfect FATAL EXAM<\/strong> brought back for a second life and allotted a spiffy Tom Hodge<\/strong> cover that\u2019s much better than the one I painted for the movie\u2019s only prior berth, a clamshell VHS offered by Salt City Home Video<\/strong> (presently SRS Cinema<\/strong>) in 1998. That particular cassette is so<\/em> scarce, neither I or the distributor have one!
