Pritzker<\/strong>, this \u201cback to school\u201d edition of the Report<\/strong> is for encouraging the young talents around us to not be shy in teaming up and making stuff with, once again, pandemic safety in mind<\/a><\/span>. Let\u2019s begin our lesson by flashing back to May when the student-run UIUC Film Festival<\/strong> livestreamed their 2021 program of campus-made shorts; you can still view the entire show<\/a><\/span>, along with videos and details from previous years, on the website also maintained by the classmates of Media and Cinema Studies<\/strong> (MACS) 464<\/strong>. The closing film of that event, RED BALL<\/strong>, is a collaboration between several University of Illinois<\/strong> departments<\/span><\/a> and can be watched individually on YouTube<\/strong><\/a><\/span>; several BFA acting candidates who appear in it will also appear in the local indie feature FINAL SUMMER<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, which wraps production this week. Presumably, Illini Film & Video<\/strong> set up shop amongst the hundreds of other UI student organizations at the 50th annual Quad Day<\/strong> last Sunday, August 22<\/strong>, but it\u2019s hard to tell if the 20-year-old club is still active; Facebook<\/strong> postings<\/a><\/span> have been understandably sparse for the last year and their YouTube account<\/a><\/span> and dedicated website<\/a><\/span> have apparently not been updated since 2019. We suggest you write illinifilmandvideo [at] gmail [dot] com<\/strong> to find out more and be added to their mailing list. As far as watching movies, the Illini Union<\/strong> second-run series for enrolled students<\/a><\/span> kicks off tonight, August 27<\/strong>, with CRUELLA<\/strong> at 7 p.m.<\/strong>, while the eighth annual Flatlands Dance Film Festival<\/strong><\/a><\/span> plays at the Spurlock Center of World Cultures<\/strong> starting at 7 p.m.<\/strong> tomorrow, August 28<\/strong>.
