I\u2019m also well aware that our main articles at the moment are full of horror projects led primarily by men, even though women contribute aplenty if one cares to look closely, so I\u2019ll happily turn this week\u2019s Report<\/strong> over to female and nonbinary friends in our communities whose creative streaks at least touch base with the cinema.<\/p>\n First, it seems WCIA Channel 3<\/strong> news producer Lauren Laws<\/strong>, who once guested on C-U Blogfidential<\/span><\/strong> and Damian Duffy Hates Everything<\/span><\/strong>, has found a new calling apart from journalism and heavy metal belly dancing; the University of Illinois<\/strong> alum is gaining a viewership on YouTube<\/strong><\/a><\/span> with a series documenting her adventures in crafting and decorating to celebrate Sunday, October 31<\/strong>, so you can bet certain brands like THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS<\/strong> will have cameos in the mix. And then, a long-time passion for writing is finally coming to fruition for visual artist Z Macabre<\/strong>, a fellow former guest at CUBlog<\/span><\/strong> and DDHE<\/span><\/strong> and a one-time Art Theater<\/strong> staff member; they debuted a sequel novel to The Witch<\/span><\/strong> (2018) called The Witch & The Vampire<\/span><\/strong> last Sunday, October 17<\/strong>, available to devour as a Kindle<\/strong> eBook and in paperback<\/a><\/span>. Elsewhere, Bachelor Pad Magazine<\/span><\/strong> cartoonist Becca Whitaker<\/strong> of DeKalb<\/strong> and \u201cDreaming of Johnny<\/strong>\u201d Etsy<\/strong> seller Sophie McMahan Berkley<\/strong> of Urbana<\/strong> take different approaches to incorporation of pop culture characters into their delightful artwork; Whitaker outfits voluptuous pin-ups<\/a><\/span> both imagined and from real life with personalities from across genres, while McMahan Berkley playfully arranges for famous horror icons to meet up with Sixties beehive beauties<\/a><\/span>. I\u2019ll also include Katrina Catizone<\/strong>, a talented illustrator of heroes, celebrities, and monsters in fine detail<\/a><\/span> using various mediums, who travels the convention circuit with her partner Michael J. Jones<\/strong>; known as \u201cEpyon5<\/strong>,\u201d the latter repurposes vintage styles and \u201cmonster kid\u201d iconography to make boutique wall hangings on wood, vinyl sticker sets, and so forth<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n We can only conclude by mentioning the grande dame<\/em> of menacing merch du C-U, Jill Van Voorst<\/strong>, who is in her third decade operating the venerable LIX Online<\/strong><\/a><\/span> with an assist from husband Gregg Olheiser<\/strong>.
