But, <em>wait<\/em>, there\u2019s more! I\u2019ll be rattling off a few bite-sized posts between this week and the next about offbeat topics that are still apropos for this frightful fall season. Opposite the expected parade of horror-themed retrospectives and listicles posted elsewhere, <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">C-U Blogfidential<\/span><\/strong> will gladly bring the unexpected to light.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We start with a <em>most<\/em> head-popping situation. Orders are being accepted for one month only through <strong>Sunday, October 31<\/strong>, for a limited-edition Blu-ray of <strong>THE MAN WHO SAVES THE WORLD<\/strong> (<strong>D\u00dcNYAYI KURTARAN ADAM<\/strong>), the 1982 Turkish space opera produced on a serial adventure budget that we\u2019ve known seemingly forever as <strong>TURKISH STAR WARS<\/strong>. Rescued from grey market oblivion by <strong>Ed Glaser<\/strong> of <strong>Neon Harbor Entertainment<\/strong> in <strong>Champaign<\/strong>, the sole surviving 35mm print of <strong>THE MAN<\/strong> is presumably the basis for this unexpected release from <strong>Big Bosphorus Media, LLC<\/strong>, named after a waterway in <strong>Turkey<\/strong> at the mouth of which sits its largest city, <strong>Istanbul<\/strong>. (<a title=\"\u2018Bosphorus\u2019 article @ Wikipedia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bosporus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Wikipedia<\/strong>\u2019s entry for <strong>Bosphorus<\/strong> states<\/span><\/a> that \u201c[i]t is the world\u2019s narrowest strait used for international navigation,\u201d a claim that pretty much describes the purpose of this disc and its main attraction.) Even a few years ago, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"SEEDS, more sewn in busy spring :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=11774\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">when Glaser premiered a 2K digital restoration<\/a><\/span> for select crowds on \u201c<strong>Star Wars Day<\/strong>,\u201d the prospects were vague that he could go any further with presenting his prize in <strong>North America<\/strong> due to its built-in legal barrier, the inclusion of unlicensed effects footage and music cues from several <strong>Hollywood<\/strong> touchstones including <strong>STAR WARS<\/strong>. And yet, here it is!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hyOCLzKszYY\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Glaser, known for his efforts in educating English-language audiences about \u201cremakesploitation\u201d films from around the world that tweak <strong>Tinsel Town<\/strong> formulae in strange and brazen ways, discussed the story behind <strong>THE MAN<\/strong> in <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"D\u00c9J\u00c0 VIEW: \u2018Turkish Star Wars\u2019 :: Neon Harbor Entertainment\" href=\"https:\/\/neonharbor.com\/turkish-star-wars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">an episode of his well-regarded Web series, <strong>D\u00c9J\u00c0 VIEW<\/strong><\/a><\/span>. I\u2019m including it for context and amusement, of course, but you can also compare the scratched-up transfer of the film intercut there with <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"THE MAN WHO SAVES THE WORLD :: Home Page\" href=\"https:\/\/themanwhosavesthe.world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the trailer featured on the Big Bosphorus home page to promote the Blu-ray<\/a><\/span>, filled bow to stern with remarkably clean and colorful clips. Their site outlines the film\u2019s appeal to fans of cult films and science fiction as well as the modest details for the release: high-definition presentation, 1.66:1 aspect ratio, original Turkish language with English subtitles, and a mini-poster insert. Apparently the fabled 35mm copy is incomplete, per a special note on the page, so footage from other sources has been patched in to complete the film. Collectors who are well aware of this opus, which was a hit in Turkey despite its rushed production history and had an absolute lack of notoriety abroad until VHS and DVD bootlegs gave it fresh wings some 20 years later, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"THE MAN WHO SAVES THE WORLD @ Kunaki\" href=\"https:\/\/kunaki.com\/Sales.asp?PID=PX001IGDCU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">will not balk at the $28.00 price for the BD-R<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">For those of you corralling your feels over the newest trailer for <strong>ETERNALS<\/strong> or actively swooning over the second big-screen adaptation of <strong>DUNE<\/strong>, the brand of fantasy-adventure delivered by something like <strong>THE MAN WHO SAVES THE WORLD<\/strong> may seem hopelessly lost in the galaxy, 40 years on. As a curio and slice of non-demanding entertainment, though, it might just be the sci-fi refresher that you\u2019ve been looking for. <strong>D\u00dcNYAYI KURTARAN ADAM<\/strong> is directed by <strong>Cetin \u0130nan\u00e7<\/strong> (Neon Harbor\u2019s <strong>RAMPAGE<\/strong> (<strong>KORKUSUZ<\/strong>)), stars <strong>C\u00fcneyt Arkin, Aytekin Akkaya<\/strong>, and <strong>F\u00fcsun U\u00e7ar<\/strong>, and runs 98 minutes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">~ Jason Pankoke<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>p.s.<\/em> Neon Harbor has been dormant in the public eye since 2017 when the label released an English edition of <a title=\"\u2018Dracula in Istanbul\u2019 by Ali Riza Seyfioglu :: Amazon\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Dracula-Istanbul-Unauthorized-Version-Classic\/dp\/0692918418\/ref=asc_df_0692918418\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Dracula<span style=\"color: #800000; text-decoration: underline;\"> in Istanbul<\/span><\/span><\/strong> by <strong>Ali Riza Seyfioglu<\/strong><\/span><\/a> and the <strong>D\u00dcNYAYI KURTARAN ADAM<\/strong> episode of <strong>D\u00c9J\u00c0 VIEW<\/strong>, the last to date. Will anything new emerge <em>ever<\/em> from <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Neon Harbor Entertainment :: Official Site\" href=\"https:\/\/neonharbor.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the house that <strong>PRESS START<\/strong> built<\/a><\/span>?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>p.s.2<\/em> Notice I wrote <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">CUBlog<\/span><\/strong> won\u2019t post new long-form content <em>before<\/em> Halloween.
