An entry in the genre of \u201cset in <strong>Illinois<\/strong> but filmed elsewhere\u201d has been rescued by specialty label <strong>Ronin Flix<\/strong>, which <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"HAUNT :: Ronin Flix\" href=\"https:\/\/roninflix.com\/collections\/ronin-flix\/products\/haunt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reissued <strong>HAUNT<\/strong> on Blu-ray<\/a><\/span> in September after offering a deluxe edition one year ago. Written and directed by <strong>Scott Beck<\/strong> and <strong>Bryan Woods<\/strong>, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u2018\u2018Haunt\u2019 is scary good fun by Bettendorf filmmakers\u2019 by Linda Cook :: The Quad City Times\" href=\"https:\/\/qconline.com\/entertainment\/columnists\/haunt-is-scary-good-fun-by-bettendorf-filmmakers\/article_cb2fb7ed-6383-5aa5-8e4b-b5612795257b.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">friends who grew up in the <strong>Quad Cities<\/strong><\/a><\/span> and scripted the smash hit <strong>A QUIET PLACE<\/strong>, the low-budget production takes place in <strong>Carbondale<\/strong> where young friends discover a rural haunted house that promises \u201cextreme\u201d scares turning out to be all too real. <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u2018They Honored Halloween and the Season's Darker Side\u2019 by Patrick Cavanaugh :: Comicbook.com\" href=\"https:\/\/comicbook.com\/horror\/news\/haunt-movie-interview-scott-beck-bryan-woods-quiet-place\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The filmmakers drew from growing up with Midwest Halloweens<\/a><\/span> and chose the home of <strong>Southern Illinois University<\/strong> as their story\u2019s location \u2013 <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u2018Riots on the Strip result in more than 100 arrests during holiday weekend\u2019 by Gus Bode :: The Daily Egyptian\" href=\"https:\/\/dailyegyptian.com\/36599\/archives\/riots-on-the-strip-result-in-more-than-100-arrests-during-holiday-weekend\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">not necessarily congruent with the city\u2019s past associations with the holiday<\/a><\/span> \u2013 even though photography took place in <strong>Kentucky<\/strong> and <strong>Ohio<\/strong>. Despite good reviews and the involvement of co-producer <strong>Eli Roth<\/strong>, <strong>HAUNT<\/strong> had only <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"HAUNT :: Momentum Pictures\" href=\"http:\/\/www.momentumpictures.net\/haunt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">received a bare-bones theatrical and DVD release<\/a><\/span> before now.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">And then, noted for extremity on a higher plane is <strong>SHATTER DEAD<\/strong>, possibly the most visceral and idea-minded horror film made during the mid-Nineties boom of shot-on-video, direct-to-video, regional fare. (Personally, your humble editor would say <strong>SHATTER DEAD<\/strong> punches the gut even harder than <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Ye Ed slays Korean DEVIL, more :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=14457\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the slick, gratuitous, upmarket <strong>I SAW THE DEVIL<\/strong><\/a><\/span>. Fight him.) <strong>Scooter McCrae<\/strong>\u2019s startling debut, which <strong>Ye Ed<\/strong> reviewed way back in <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">MICRO-FILM<\/span> 6<\/strong> and witnessed being disqualified from consideration for the local <strong>Freaky Film Festival<\/strong> due to its onscreen transgressions, is <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"SHATTER DEAD (Saturn\u2019s Core) :: Vinegar Syndrome\" href=\"https:\/\/vinegarsyndrome.com\/collections\/frontpage-partner-labels\/products\/shatter-dead-saturns-core\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">newly re-released as a stacked Blu-ray from the fledgling label <strong>Saturn\u2019s Core<\/strong><\/a><\/span> and sub-distributed by the ever-surprising <strong>Vinegar Syndrome<\/strong>; <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"SHATTER DEAD review :: Mondo Digital\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mondo-digital.com\/shatterdead.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">dig into <strong>Mondo Digital<\/strong>\u2019s review<\/a><\/span> of the upgrade and keep watch for announcements from <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Happy Cloud Media :: Official Site\" href=\"https:\/\/happycloudpictures.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">our friends at <strong>Happy Cloud Media<\/strong><\/a><\/span> about a <strong>SHATTER DEAD<\/strong> companion book they have in the works, adding to the creeping legend of this <strong>New York<\/strong> outburst-for-camera financed with pocket change and saturated in urban grim.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Finally, our man <strong>Jed Brian<\/strong> let us know about a special showing next <strong>Friday, November 5<\/strong>, at the <strong>Eagle Theater<\/strong> in <strong>Robinson, IL<\/strong>.
