Former film director, writer, and producer <strong>Michael Laughlin<\/strong> has passed away in <strong>Hawai\u2019i<\/strong>, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u2018Michael Laughlin, Who Produced \u2018Two-Lane Blacktop\u2019 and Co-Wrote \u2018Town &amp; Country,\u2019 Dies at 82\u2019 by Kimberly Nordyke :: The Hollywood Reporter\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/michael-laughlin-dead-two-lane-blacktop-producer-cult-classic-1235039871\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/span>; his modest list of credits include the early Eighties genre riffs, <strong>STRANGE BEHAVIOR<\/strong> and <strong>STRANGE INVADERS<\/strong>, both set in <strong>Illinois<\/strong> despite being produced outside the <strong>United States<\/strong> and presumably <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"IOW: STRANGE to see no BloNo :: C-U Blogfidential\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=9261\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">drawn to a degree from his upbringing in the <strong>Bloomington-Normal<\/strong> area<\/a><\/span>. Thanks to a social media comment by <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">CUBlog<\/span><\/strong> friend <strong>Daniel Griffith<\/strong>, I learned the <strong>STRANGE<\/strong> pair\u2019s distant cousin, <strong>SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES<\/strong>, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u2018Something Wicked This Way Comes Blu-ray\u2019 :: Blu-ray.com\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blu-ray.com\/movies\/Something-Wicked-This-Way-Comes-Blu-ray\/44464\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">has finally received a Blu-ray release<\/a><\/span> nearly 20 years after its last DVD issue; introduced in late September as a \u201c<strong>Disney Movie Club<\/strong>\u201d exclusive, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u2018Something Wicked This Way Comes Blu-ray Review\u2019 by Matt Paprocki :: DoBlu.com\" href=\"https:\/\/www.doblu.com\/2021\/09\/17\/something-wicked-this-way-comes-blu-ray-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the disc apparently offers no extras and a barely-improved transfer<\/a><\/span> of the divisive <strong>Ray Bradbury<\/strong> adaptation, also set in Illinois but during the early 20th century. And finally, while visiting <strong>Momkoke<\/strong> in assisted living, we happened to have a horror marathon on television that led to the 2018 rejiggering of <strong>HALLOWEEN<\/strong> directed by <strong>David Gordon Green<\/strong>, memorably sulky as a much younger filmmaker when he was a guest of <strong>Roger Ebert\u2019s Overlooked Film Festival<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u2018George Washington\u2019 by Roger Ebert :: Roger Ebert\u2019s Film Festival archive\" href=\"http:\/\/archive.ebertfest.media.illinois.edu\/four\/george_washington_rev.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in support of <strong>GEORGE WASHINGTON<\/strong> in 2002<\/a><\/span>. Since my mother has always liked <strong>Jamie Lee Curtis<\/strong>, we left it on and I finally witnessed the <strong>University of Illinois<\/strong> reference uttered by the psychiatrist Dr. Sartain (<strong>Haluk Bilginer<\/strong>) in the opening sequence with Michael Myers (<strong>Nick Castle<\/strong>) at a sanitarium.
