Please play it smart and stay put if you can help it. Most of this week\u2019s movies will play again somewhere from Monday on, except for the few houses that decided to temporarily close for their reasons. Not much afoot at <strong>MFHQ Remote<\/strong> to share, anyway. We\u2019ll have a pair of posts next week and ideas have been tumbling about in regards to activities in the near future. We\u2019ll make announcements about the ones that gel when we can. Until then, have an impromptu and brand-new <strong>Almanac<\/strong> entry to kick off 2022 that I spent way too much time cross-checking in the <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Daily Illini<\/span><\/strong> archives of the invaluable <strong>Illinois Digital Newspaper Collections<\/strong> hosted online by the <strong>University Library<\/strong> at UI. It\u2019s the good kind of rabbit hole to be sucked down into after a blah day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>CONFIDENTIAL ALMANAC | Dates in Film Culture History<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>100 Years Ago<\/strong> \u2026 <em>Monday, January 9, 1922:<\/em> For tonight and the next two evenings, the <strong>Orpheum Theatre<\/strong> in downtown <strong>Champaign<\/strong> includes in their vaudeville bill a student-made photoplay, <strong>A DAY AT ILLINOIS<\/strong>, conceived and photographed by <strong>Clarence Welsh<\/strong> of the class of \u201823. Similar to <strong>PRO PATRIA<\/strong>, the melodramatic and made-on-campus production by students from a few seasons ago, <strong>ILLINOIS<\/strong> strings together images of the <strong>University of Illinois<\/strong> and undergraduate life with a storyline, although the focus in Welsh\u2019s hands seems to be on documentation and school spirit instead of stirring intrigue of a fictitious sort. The more straightforward idea involves a pair of siblings enrolled at Illinois, played by <strong>Thelma Scott<\/strong> \u201823 and football and basketball star <strong>Charles \u201cChuck\u201d Carney<\/strong> \u201822, who meet up with their parents, played by engineering professor <strong>A.M. Talbot<\/strong> and <strong>Kappa Alpha Theta<\/strong> chaperone <strong>Harriett Barr<\/strong>, and they all enjoy the wonders of university by land and air during homecoming. Sights promised in the picture, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u2018A Day at Illinois\u2019 search results :: The Daily Illini archives at Illinois Digital Newspaper Collections, UIUC\" href=\"https:\/\/idnc.library.illinois.edu\/?a=q&amp;hs=1&amp;r=1&amp;results=1&amp;txf=txIN&amp;puq=DIL&amp;txq=%22A+Day+at+Illinois%22&amp;e=-------en-20--1--img-txIN-Charles+Carney+%22Campus+Movie%22---------\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">as teased by several <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Daily Illini<\/span><\/strong> articles from the fall and advertisements in recent issues<\/a><\/span>, include the greenhouses, the <strong>Union<\/strong>, the <strong>Illinois Central<\/strong> train station, <strong>R.O.T.C.<\/strong> maneuvers, football pageantry, and bird\u2019s eye vistas taken from an airplane. Welsh\u2019s faculty supervisor for the project is <strong>C.H. Woolbert<\/strong>, professor in the department of public speaking, and it will be shown to booster and civic groups all around the state of <strong>Illinois<\/strong>, as told to the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">DI<\/span> by director of university publicity <strong>Josef F. Wright<\/strong> in the <strong>November 16<\/strong> issue. This will follow the unveiling of <strong>A DAY AT ILLINOIS<\/strong> in the Champaign community today and its premiere for the student body that was held last semester at the <strong>Auditorium<\/strong> on <strong>Thursday, December 8<\/strong>.
