To start, the organizers of the <strong>Popcorn Frights Film Festival<\/strong> in <strong>Florida<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u2018Eighth Annual Popcorn Frights Film Festival First Wave Announced!\u2019 by Angel Melanson :: Fangoria\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fangoria.com\/original\/eighth-annual-popcorn-frights-film-festival-first-wave\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced on <strong>Monday, July 11<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, their first wave of selections for 2022 and it includes <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"FINAL SUMMER @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/FinalSummermovie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>FINAL SUMMER<\/strong>, the retro slasher picture<\/a><\/span> filmed last year in the east central <strong>Illinois<\/strong> woodlands by <strong>Champaign<\/strong>-based writer\/director <strong>John Isberg<\/strong> and his crew. This constitutes the film\u2019s world premiere and it will shock audiences on <strong>Saturday, August 13<\/strong>, at <strong>11 p.m. EST<\/strong>, making it the second feature-length film by local producers to be unveiled in the last four months after the twin debut of <strong>Shatterglass Studios\u2019 REVEALER<\/strong> at showings in <strong>Brazil<\/strong> and <strong>Kansas City, Missouri<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Elsewhere, <strong>Jim Dey<\/strong> of the <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">News-Gazette<\/span><\/strong> <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u2018Local 'serial killer' case the subject of TV series\u2019 by Jim Dey :: The News-Gazette\" href=\"https:\/\/www.news-gazette.com\/opinion\/jim-dey-local-serial-killer-case-the-subject-of-tv-series\/article_b3365c0b-e71d-5499-92fb-48e8dfd0af2f.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">made the connections between a real-life 1993 abduction and murder case in <strong>Vermillion County<\/strong> and the new <strong>Apple TV+<\/strong> miniseries<\/a><\/span> <strong>BLACK BIRD<\/strong>, a six-part affair that premiered with two episodes on <strong>Friday, July 1<\/strong>, and centers on a law enforcement scheme to send a felon, Jimmy Keene (<strong>Taron Egerton<\/strong>), into a maximum-security wing and elicit a murder confession from a dangerous inmate, Larry Hall (<strong>Paul Walter Hauser<\/strong>), in exchange for his own early release. <strong>Greg Kinnear, Sepideh Moafi<\/strong>, and the late <strong>Ray Liotta<\/strong> also star in this offering developed by crime story veteran <strong>Dennis Lehane<\/strong>, author of <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Shutter Island<\/span><\/strong> and <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Gone Baby Gone<\/span><\/strong>, and those with an Apple ID can <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"BLACK BIRD :: Apple TV+\" href=\"https:\/\/tv.apple.com\/us\/show\/black-bird\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">visit this website to watch the first installment for free<\/a><\/span>. The sixth <strong>Dark History and Horror Convention<\/strong> is set to take place on <strong>Friday, August 19<\/strong>, and <strong>Saturday, August 20<\/strong>, at the <strong>I Hotel and Conference Center<\/strong> in south Champaign, and is a long-gestating effort by organizer and founder <strong>Brian L. Ward<\/strong> that finally seems to be operating at full stride.
