FIELD REPORT DU HQ | From Wherever It May Be Said<\/strong><\/p>\n

Methinks it\u2019s time to return to the classic \u201cthree things\u201d format of the Report<\/strong> so that we can broaden our horizons weekly on the cinema front and not just be focused on the local. (Although, I\u2019ll happy go back on that in a few moments with good reason.) First, the beleaguered theatrical industry is marking a new \u201cNational Cinema Day<\/strong>\u201d on Saturday, September 3<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, wherein participating venues will be selling $3 tickets to all shows, all day long. Their timing is arguably not great, given the horrible drop in box-office revenue this current weekend<\/a><\/span>, yet we might as well take advantage of the gesture. Next, Brooklyn<\/strong>-based curator Maya S. Cade<\/strong> is marking the one-year anniversary of launching the Black Film Archive<\/strong> with the release of new merchandise to help fund her mission to inform us on the wide swathe of cinema that addresses the black experience. Don\u2019t hesitate to visit the Archive\u2019s easy-to-navigate website<\/a><\/span> and be impressed by the deep and necessary dive it already provides. Finally, if you\u2019re interested in how Champaign-Urbana<\/strong> citizens might have played a part in the nascent Hollywood<\/strong> of the Left Coast during the early 20th century, be sure to watch this video of Perry C. Morris<\/strong>\u2019 \u201cHistory Talk\u201d<\/a><\/span> on the life of actress and Urbana native Virginia Sale<\/strong>, given at the Champaign County History Museum<\/strong> back on Thursday, August 18<\/strong>. Morris also provided a retrospect on her brother, the humorist Charles \u201cChic\u201d Sale<\/strong>, in June at the museum.<\/p>\n
