Now, percolating murmurs have anticipated the concrete fact that Kraft will part ways with <a title=\"Boardman's Art Theater :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.boardmanstheatres.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">current Art operator <strong>Greg Boardman<\/strong><\/a>, whose lease runs out after next <strong>Wednesday, December 30<\/strong>. While this turn of events has been handled in a more civil manner publicly than what happened in 2002, neither sat well with Art fans and cultural purists who could see no other use for the building at <strong>126 W. Church St.<\/strong> than as a single-screen movie house. It\u2019s certainly a daunting livelihood to pursue in the 2009 economic climate unless one has <strong>P.T. Barnum<\/strong> <em>chutzpah <\/em>running through one\u2019s blood.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Since we already know the happy ending, this post will not attempt to read code and determine conspiracy in what killed the Angelica and Boardman eras. We\u2019ll sparingly note what the general public could already sense, in that conflict of personality and business acumen were the most likely factors leading to the turnovers. In that respect, <strong>C-U Blogfidential<\/strong> refrained from crying wolf with the knowledge that a suitor, now revealed as local software professional <strong>Sanford Hess<\/strong>, had been assessing the Boardman-Kraft situation and banking on them accepting offers based on market realities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Art will close on <strong>New Year\u2019s Eve<\/strong> due to legal reasons, according to Hess\u2019 recent post on the <strong>Champaign Movie Makers<\/strong> on-line forum, after which he will reopen on <strong>Friday, January 1<\/strong>, with a one-week run of <a title=\"ME &amp; ORSON WELLES :: Official Site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.meandorsonwellesthemovie.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>ME AND ORSON WELLES<\/strong><\/a>, directed by <strong>Richard Linklater<\/strong> (<strong>BEFORE SUNRISE<\/strong>) and starring <strong>Zac Efron<\/strong> and <strong>Claire Danes<\/strong>, to be followed by <strong>THE MESSENGER<\/strong> starring <strong>Ben Foster<\/strong> and <strong>Woody Harrelson<\/strong>. Until then, Boardman offers his final presentation, a 60th anniversary re-release print of the classic <strong>Vittorio De Sica<\/strong> picture, <strong>THE BICYCLE THIEF<\/strong> (1948), which will show daily through Wednesday at <strong>5 p.m.<\/strong> and <strong>7 p.m.<\/strong> with a <strong>3 p.m. <\/strong>matinee on <strong>Sunday, December 27<\/strong>, all at a reduced ticket price of $5.00.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In his final e-newsletter, Boardman <a title=\"THE BICYCLE THIEF trailer @ IMDb.com\" href=\"http:\/\/us.imdb.com\/video\/screenplay\/vi4035510553\/\" target=\"_blank\">pointed towards this vintage trailer<\/a> from a 1972 reissue, which will give you an idea of the film\u2019s famed Neorealist aesthetic. <strong>THE BICYCLE THIEF<\/strong> received a special <strong>Academy Award<\/strong> in 1950 for the most \u201coutstanding foreign language film\u201d released in the <strong>United States<\/strong> the prior year.
