Our <strong>Report<\/strong> today begins in <strong>Springfield<\/strong> at the <strong>Hoogland Center for the Arts<\/strong> in the downtown district, where the rising genre actor and area native <strong>Bishop Stevens<\/strong> (<strong>FINAL SUMMER, SALEM TUSK<\/strong>) has organized a red-carpet fundraiser. <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Meet Me at the Movies \u2013 Charity Events @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/moviecharityevents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201c<strong>Meet Me at the Movies<\/strong>,\u201d<\/a><\/span> taking place this <strong>Saturday, September 10<\/strong>, is positioned as an annual event that will help non-profit and philanthropic groups service their own communities \u2013 the recipient of donations this year is the capital city\u2019s <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Garvey-Tubman Cultural Arts &amp; Research Center :: Home Page\" href=\"https:\/\/www.garveytubman.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Garvey-Tubman Cultural Arts &amp; Research Center<\/strong><\/a><\/span> \u2013 and is built around screenings of cinema in which Stevens has been involved. Oddly, the selections hail from other cities: <strong>Pens to Lens<\/strong> films at <strong>1 p.m.<\/strong>, the darkly humorous short <strong>THE LAST DAY<\/strong> from <strong>Silver Compass Studios<\/strong> of <strong>Decatur<\/strong> at <strong>7 p.m.<\/strong>, and, immediately following, the first downstate presentation to our knowledge of <strong>Shatterglass Films<\/strong>\u2019 <strong>REVEALER<\/strong> for the public. Daytime fare is geared to all ages and the evening show is decidedly for adults, as <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"REVEALER clip :: \u2018Fangoria\u2019 channel @ YouTube\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KO0bRMeX3wc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Fangoria<\/span><\/strong> was all too happy to reiterate<\/a><\/span> a couple of days ago.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Much closer to the Windy City, a reprise showing of <strong>Gorman Berchard<\/strong> and <strong>Fred Uhter<\/strong>\u2019s film on the late Urbana musician <strong>Jay Bennett<\/strong> is set for <a title=\"The Venue :: Home Page\" href=\"https:\/\/www.themusicvenue.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>The Venu<span style=\"color: #800000;\">e<\/span><\/strong> in <strong>Aurora<\/strong><\/span><\/a> at the same time. Uhter will be on hand to present <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"WHERE ARE YOU, JAY BENNETT? @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/jaybennettmovie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>WHERE ARE YOU, JAY BENNETT?<\/strong><\/a><\/span> at <strong>7 p.m.<\/strong> on <strong>Saturday<\/strong>, after which <strong>Steve Dawson, Gerald Dowd<\/strong>, and <strong>Ben Clarke<\/strong> will perform a tribute concert by which to remember Bennett. Both <strong>Chicago<\/strong> and Springfield are solid drives from east central <strong>Illinois<\/strong>, we know, but please consider attending these events to show your support and interest. It <em>does<\/em> bring up the question as to why <strong>BENNETT<\/strong> and <strong>REVEALER<\/strong> have not played yet in <strong>Champaign-Urbana<\/strong>, and they aren\u2019t the only recent productions of downstate relation to be AWOL in the communal event spaces of C-U. Are there any promoters out there who are willing to fill the indigenous video void? Does your humble editor have to put on his non-humble hard hat and march down there from the house on the edge of an American small town to right wrongs?
