Improbably serving as the \u201cseason opener\u201d event for <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"The Virginia Theatre :: Home Page\" href=\"https:\/\/thevirginia.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the <strong>Virginia Theatre<\/strong>\u2019s 2022-23 calendar<\/a><\/span> in downtown <strong>Champaign<\/strong>, a revised edit of <strong>R.C. Raycraft<\/strong>\u2019s durable <strong>INCIDENT AT KICKAPOO CREEK<\/strong> premieres tomorrow, <strong>Saturday, September 17<\/strong>, at <strong>7 p.m.<\/strong>, preceded at <strong>5 p.m.<\/strong> outdoors on <strong>Park Avenue<\/strong> by food trucks, an archival exhibit, and a special music combo performing songs from the catalogs of artists who played the original, post-<strong>Woodstock<\/strong> \u201c<strong>Incident<\/strong>,\u201d <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"INCIDENT AT KICKAPOO CREEK @ Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/IncidentAtKickapooCreek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a once-forgotten rock concert that attracted roughly 60,000 young people to a farm in downstate <strong>Heyworth, Illinois<\/strong>, in May 1970<\/a><\/span>. <strong>INCIDENT<\/strong> is a long-running side project for Raycraft, a video producer, author, and antiques collector who lives in <strong>Bloomington<\/strong>, and has been <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u2018After saving its memory, filmmaker brings story of 'Incident at Kickapoo Creek' to Virginia Theatre\u2019 by Anthony Zilis :: The News-Gazette\" href=\"https:\/\/www.news-gazette.com\/news\/after-saving-its-memory-filmmaker-brings-story-of-incident-at-kickapoo-creek-to-virginia-theatre\/article_d27e1efb-2ac7-51f3-b17c-69734a6f212f.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">periodically updated as he comes across ephemera and stories that can enhance the documentary<\/a><\/span>; his first public showing of <strong>INCIDENT<\/strong> took place in 1995, and to date it has not been distributed on any platform. This event is co-sponsored by <strong>WKIO 107.9 FM<\/strong>, which sporadically airs all-day marathons of recordings by local musicians, and is an unexpected combination of cultural pomp and circumstance mixed with total rock \u2018n roll. Only thing they\u2019ve left out is the mudslide!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Also taking place on Saturday is <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"CATALYST :: DTLA Film Festival\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dtlaff.com\/film\/catalyst\/68\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the world premiere of <strong>CATALYST<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, showing in theater 10 of the <strong>Regal LA Live<\/strong> at <strong>9:25 p.m.<\/strong> Eastern time as a selection of the 13th annual <strong>DTLA Film Festival<\/strong> in <strong>Los Angeles<\/strong>. It is the first feature film to be written and directed by <strong>Christopher Folkens<\/strong>, an <strong>Illinois<\/strong> native who attended the <strong>University of Illinois<\/strong> in the early 2000s to earn a degree at the <strong>School of Music<\/strong>, worked for a spell at <strong>Leo Burnett Worldwide<\/strong> in <strong>Chicago<\/strong>, and then moved to the West Coast. A solid track record of studio and independent commercial work, sometimes with A-list talent like<strong> Kerry Washington<\/strong> and <strong>Ellen Pompeo<\/strong>, has led a more experienced Folkens back to what seemed to pique his interest most other than music composition in his UIUC years, narrative film. <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Sci-Fi Thriller CATALYST to World Premiere: Regal Cinemas LA Live by Director Christopher Folkens\u2019 by PR Worldwide :: Yahoo! Finance\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/sci-fi-thriller-catalyst-world-123600087.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>CATALYST<\/strong> is a stylish and tense descent into a near-future \u201cwhat-if\u201d situation<\/a><\/span> that pits several individuals with dark marks on their respective pasts against one another; it stars <strong>Michael Roark, Noel Gugliemi, Patrick Kilpatrick, David Bianchi<\/strong>, and <strong>Melanie Liburd<\/strong>, and is a production of <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Mystic Films :: Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mystic-films.com\/#reel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Mystic Films<\/strong><\/a><\/span>. Nearly 20 years after he created epic short films out of nothing on the UI campus with <strong>TRIAD<\/strong> and <strong>TOXIN<\/strong>, Folkens is finally seeing his vision come alive in a big way. Congrats!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Finally, even though she lost out to <strong>ABBOTT ELEMENTARY<\/strong> costar <strong>Sheryl Lee Ralph<\/strong> in the comedy supporting actress category during <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"\u2018Emmy Awards 2022: The Complete Winners List\u2019 by Jennifer Maas :: Variety\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2022\/tv\/news\/2022-emmy-winners-list-1235354826\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Monday night\u2019s <strong>Emmy Awards<\/strong> telecast<\/a><\/span>, <strong>Janelle James<\/strong> has plenty to be thankful for. <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Janelle James appearance, April 13, 2022 :: Jimmy Kimmel Live channel @ YouTube\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/OdAl7FP28gQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">She recounted on <strong>JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE<\/strong> a few months ago<\/a><\/span> about how she started out in stand-up comedy in Champaign-Urbana as an unmarried mother in her 30s and followed <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" title=\"Janelle James stand-up, January 15, 2019, on Late Night With Seth Meyers :: NBC\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbc.com\/late-night-with-seth-meyers\/video\/janelle-james-standup-performance\/3864332\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the lights to <strong>New York City<\/strong> and then Los Angeles<\/a><\/span> to become an in-demand writer, producer, and talent.
