FIELD REPORT DU HQ | From Wherever It May Be Said<\/strong><\/p>\n

Today we\u2019re all about the short and sweet, offering a few friendly directives on how you can support your local and ex-local filmmakers. On Tuesday, October 11<\/strong>, at 7 p.m.<\/strong>, attend the first local screening of the new documentary JIMMY IN SAIGON<\/strong><\/a><\/span> at the Spurlock Museum of World Cultures<\/strong> on the UI campus; directed by C-U native Peter McDowell<\/strong> of Los Angeles<\/strong>, the film chronicles his search for meaning in the truncated life of his older brother James McDowell<\/strong> who died in Vietnam<\/strong> under ill-reported circumstances. And on Thursday, October 13<\/strong>, cruise our state highways to the Harvest Moon Twin Drive-in<\/strong> of Gibson City<\/strong> and watch the local premiere of FINAL SUMMER<\/strong>, filmmaker John Isberg<\/strong>\u2019s slasher throwback<\/span><\/a>, in an ideal nighttime setting; international festival dates are fast approaching for SUMMER<\/strong>, and Isberg hints on social media that so is domestic distribution. And finally, a pair of former east central Illinois<\/strong> residents have reached milestones in their respective work, just a stone\u2019s throw away on the Calendar<\/strong> from their birthdays next week. Christopher Folkens<\/strong> of Mystic Films<\/strong> reports that his feature film debut, CATALYST<\/strong>, has won three top awards from the event hosting its world premiere<\/a><\/span>, the DTLA Film Festival<\/strong> of Los Angeles, while Alaric S. Rocha<\/strong> of Blue Bassoon Pictures<\/strong> is excited for the world premiere of his newest short, THE TONE OF EMMA ZANN\u2019S VIOLA<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, this weekend at the long-running H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival<\/strong> in Portland, Oregon<\/strong>. Folkens attended the University of Illinois<\/strong> and Rocha hails from Decatur<\/strong>.
