No thanks to life circumstances beyond our control, it soon will be horribly cold inside at MFHQ Deux<\/strong>. Please pardon us if CUBlog<\/span><\/strong> skips a few beats in the coming weeks as your humble editor looks after his Momkoke<\/strong> with all the love he can muster. We presume he\u2019ll eventually warm up again to his editorial post. Eventually.<\/p>\n Also, we haven\u2019t plunked down a MICRO-FILM<\/span><\/strong> round-up in a while, so why don\u2019t we give the gift of indie film flashbacks this Xmas? First, Mr. JaPan<\/strong> received a nifty token of appreciation from a friend of our flagship mag, View Askew<\/strong> associate Vincent Pereira<\/strong>, who recently appeared in the belated Kevin Smith<\/strong> sequel, CLERKS III<\/strong><\/a><\/span>. Arriving in our mailbox back in August, the set of 16mm clippings originated from a print of Pereira\u2019s debut feature, A BETTER PLACE<\/strong>, which made the cover of MICRO-FILM<\/span> 3<\/strong> eons ago<\/a><\/span> in 2000; the filmmaker has been busy with a high-definition restoration of that film to be released in 2023 as well as writing the screenplay for his next effort, THE BACK SCRATCHER<\/strong>. Second, after we discovered the existence of a no-budget camcorder sequel<\/a><\/span> to the late Michael Laughlin<\/strong>\u2019s DEAD KIDS<\/strong> (or STRANGE BEHAVIOR<\/strong>), we looked hard for internet evidence in regards to DEAD KIDS 2<\/strong> and found next to none, save for a review in the same 1999 issue of Shock Cinema<\/span><\/strong> magazine<\/a><\/span> that also featured a review of Mike Trippiedi<\/strong>\u2019s all-star C-U movie, DOGS IN QUICKSAND<\/strong>. Third, upon the conclusion of \u201cBruceFest<\/strong>\u201d at the Stanley Hotel<\/strong> of Estes Park, Colorado<\/strong>, wherein all things Bruce Campbell<\/strong> were celebrated<\/a><\/span> by hundreds of fans and emceed by The Chin himself, we\u2019re inspired to remind you of the Synapse Films<\/strong> Blu-ray release from last year of RUNNING TIME<\/strong><\/a><\/span>. It\u2019s the black-and-white crime caper that made the cover of MICRO-FILM<\/span> 1<\/strong> even more eons ago in 1999, and the disc\u2019s extras include Ye Ed\u2019s fabled Hi-8 footage of director Josh Becker<\/strong> and star Campbell at the first Freaky Film Festival<\/strong> in C-U<\/a><\/span>. (1997 is now considered vintage<\/em>, right?)
