All that and more means I don\u2019t have much propulsion to preview all that is shaking down in central Illinois<\/strong>, so name checks and links it is.<\/p>\n Boneyard Arts Festival<\/strong> brings the arts across Champaign County<\/strong> from April 14<\/strong> to 16<\/strong>; the website<\/a><\/span> covers artists and venues separately while this dense listing is the directory<\/a><\/span> to help you pick and choose what to sample. Sadly, there very little media involved save for, say, a slew of Mark Roberts<\/strong> sock-puppet videos<\/a><\/span> in the Bad Mule Rag<\/span><\/strong> vein at Surface 51<\/strong> in Champaign<\/strong> or a Jennifer Gibas<\/strong> \u201cglowing mural\u201d projection at the UI Spurlock Museum<\/strong> in Urbana<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Next, the Normal Theater<\/strong> is hosting Illinois State University<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cReggieCon\u201d April 14-15<\/strong>, which is a series of speakers and screenings that will dive into pop culture through an academic lens and alternative voices<\/a><\/span>; I picked out the familiar film choices and listed them below. And then, Roger Ebert\u2019s Film Festival<\/strong> rears its formidable head at the Virginia Theatre<\/strong> of Champaign from April 19<\/strong> to 22<\/strong> with an empathetic schedule<\/a><\/span> and bonus Ebert Symposium<\/strong> events on April 18<\/strong> and 19<\/strong><\/span><\/a> at the UI Illini Union<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Multimedia performer Deke Weaver<\/strong> will appear with musician Jason Finkelman<\/strong> and theater director Latrelle Bright<\/strong> at the Meadowbrook Barn<\/strong> in Urbana on April 19, 7:30 p.m.<\/strong>, for an evening of arts discovery<\/a><\/span>. Less than a day later, former C-U resident, University of Illinois<\/strong> professor, and Damian Duffy Hates Everything<\/span><\/strong> contributor John Jennings<\/strong> returns for a lecture<\/a><\/span> at the UI Krannert Art Museum<\/strong> on April 20, 5:30 p.m.<\/strong>, called \u201cGo Back and Get It\u201d about how West African ideology has informed his subsequent career as a creator, curator, and champion of Black arts expression and pop culture, such as contemporary Afrofuturism and the usurping of comics industry tropes.<\/p>\n Everything here except for \u201cEbertfest<\/strong>\u201d shows and certain Boneyard-adjacent events is free to the public. I\u2019m sure I\u2019ve missed a few relevant things, but we\u2019ll have to run with this. Go explore. Be enriched.
