{"id":152,"date":"2007-02-26T23:58:47","date_gmt":"2007-02-27T05:58:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=152"},"modified":"2014-09-06T15:01:03","modified_gmt":"2014-09-06T21:01:03","slug":"in-my-backyard-year-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=152","title":{"rendered":"In My Backyard: Year 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\">One year ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=1\">this modest proposal<\/a> marked the beginning of a little venture called <strong>C-U Blogfidential<\/strong>, the only Web site dedicated to filmmaking and movie viewing in downstate Illinois. I&#8217;ve actually had a great time building it up during <strong>Year 1<\/strong>, creating something way more comprehensive than I could ever do in the occasional pages of <strong>MICRO-FILM<\/strong>, and I&#8217;m ready to embark on a <strong>Year 2<\/strong> that&#8217;s even more fulfilling than the first.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">My primary goals are to\u00a0make <strong>CUBlog<\/strong> more interactive and to begin filling the vacant Pages on the right with archival material.\u00a0You simply have <em>no idea<\/em> how many photos, graphics, anecdotes, factoids, and ultra-obscure goodies I&#8217;ve piled up here at the <strong>Secret MICRO-FILM Headquarters<\/strong> with no place to go! We&#8217;ll see what I can make available to illustrate the history of the local motion picture centered here in <strong>Champaign<\/strong>, <strong>Urbana<\/strong>, and the cities beyond.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">These are some of the improvements I think might be valuable:<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\"><strong>Clean Slate<\/strong>, the monthly &#8220;open post&#8221; feature <a href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=130\">introduced earlier this\u00a0month<\/a> where select topics pertaining to film production and promotion can be discussed;<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">A <strong>Newsgroup<\/strong> dedicated to constructive &#8220;shop talk&#8221; between film artists, technicians, promoters, students, journalists, and critics in the area;<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">The aforementioned <strong>Archival Postings<\/strong> that will document creative film\/video\/multi-media made in the area;<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">A wave of <strong>Link Additions<\/strong> and <strong>Design Adjustments<\/strong> to improve the breadth and aesthetics of the Weblog;<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">A\u00a0companion mini-magazine, <strong>C-U Confidential<\/strong>, geared towards introducing &#8220;our scene&#8221; to the sizeable audiences of the <strong>Boneyard Arts Festival<\/strong> and <strong>Roger Ebert&#8217;s Overlooked Film Festival<\/strong> every spring!<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"left\"><em>Now<\/em> &#8230; in order for the above to heighten <strong>CUBlog<\/strong>&#8216;s effectiveness, it will certainly take more than myself to make it happen. <strong>I challenge each and every one of you reading these words to dig in and to encourage all of your friends and associates interested in Film &#038; Video to do the same.<\/strong> Some initial suggestions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Please rush-<em>rush<\/em> and bludgeon that poor, neglected <strong>February Clean Slate<\/strong> with comments. (I basically <a href=\"https:\/\/www.micro-film-magazine.com\/cublog\/?p=130\">left the gates open<\/a> for you folks to pimp your stuff on my site. And, you didn&#8217;t. What&#8217;s the\u00a0hesitation?! <em>Go for it!!!<\/em>)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Plan to post\u00a0<em>more<\/em> interesting responses when the next <strong>Clean Slate<\/strong> appears this <strong>Thursday, March 1<\/strong>. (You can do it!)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Request an\u00a0invitation to join the <strong>Newsgroup<\/strong> in the near future once I set it up.
