This evening and all day tomorrow, October 6<\/strong> and 7<\/strong>, the newly-opened Gallery Art Bar<\/strong><\/a><\/span> in the former NOLA<\/strong> space of downtown Urbana<\/strong> will host the 2023 Immersion Festival<\/strong>, a continuous display of \u201cexperimental arts\u201d including music performance, DJ sets, meditative moments, and video installations from the likes of Matt HarsH<\/strong> and others; tied to the inaugural \u201cFall Fusion Festival<\/strong>\u201d sponsored by 40 North 88 West<\/strong>, Immersion lasts until 1 a.m.<\/strong> on Friday and 2 a.m.<\/strong> on Saturday<\/a><\/span>. And then, if you did not catch her maiden voyage as a stand-up in the makeshift comedy club spaces of downstate Illinois<\/strong><\/a><\/span> some 10-15 years ago, you can enjoy the current routine of ABBOTT ELEMENTARY<\/strong> star Janelle James<\/strong> on stage at the Kirkland Fine Arts Center<\/strong> of Millikin University<\/strong> in Decatur<\/strong> next Saturday, October 14<\/strong>; tickets for the performance<\/a><\/span>, which starts at 7:30 p.m.<\/strong>, run between $40 and $100, befitting of a showbiz personality on the rise. To close, Facebook<\/strong> algorithms recently began to show us promotion for a new Severin Films<\/strong> showcase, similar to the ones they\u2019ve sponsored recently for the Normal Theater<\/strong> in Normal<\/strong>, at the Orpheum Theatre<\/strong> \u2026 in Galesburg, IL<\/strong>. Psych!<\/em> The offbeat program booked for October 14<\/strong><\/a><\/span> includes the Australian chiller NEXT OF KIN<\/strong> and the New Zealand<\/strong>-filmed thriller STRANGE BEHAVIOR<\/strong>, the latter set in a fictionalized Galesburg<\/a><\/span> by the late filmmaker Michael Laughlin who grew up in Normal\u2019s twin city of Bloomington<\/strong>. It\u2019s novel and raises questions elsewhere. Will the Normal ever do a Laughlin tribute? Will the re-opened Orpheum<\/strong> of Champaign<\/strong> ever show movies?
